No Dejaré Que Nadie Me Impida Ir A Mi Jerusalén; Allí Moriré Y Resucitaré
Mateo 16:21-27
Introducción
“Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a declarar a sus discípulos que le era necesario ir a Jerusalén y padecer mucho… Entonces Pedro, tomándolo aparte, comenzó a reconvenirle… Pero él, volviéndose, dijo a Pedro: ¡Quítate de delante de mí, Satanás!; me eres tropiezo, porque no pones la mira en las cosas de Dios, sino en las de los hombres.”
Cada uno de nosotros tiene su propia Jerusalén, y cada uno sabe a qué debe ir a morir; pero se nos hace duro dejar de ser yo, porque uno dice: yo nací así, crecí así, así soy. El estudio enseña que si el grano de trigo no cae y muere no puede dar fruto, y que a veces creemos haber muerto ya a mucho sin ver todo lo que nos falta. Recorre la venida de Jesús en mansedumbre, contra el Mesías guerrero que los discípulos esperaban; el momento en que Pedro, sin mala intención ninguna, se vuelve eco de la voz de Satanás, porque el enemigo no busca un extraño sino al que nos ama y nos puede hacer titubear; la necesidad del quebrantamiento para romper la dureza y aprender a amar; y el llamado de Lucas 9:23 a negarse a uno mismo y tomar la cruz cada día. Cierra con la advertencia de no dejar que ninguna voz dulce nos suavice el proceso: el daño es para uno, y la carne se descompone, pero el espíritu no.
I.Cada uno tiene su propia Jerusalén.
AA. Cada uno de nosotros sabe a lo que debe ir a morir.
1.
No nos gusta el padecer, no nos gusta el sufrir, no nos gusta saber que tenemos que morir en algo.
2.
Se nos hace duro dejar de ser yo: “yo nací así, crecí así, así soy; ¿por qué ahora tengo que cambiar?”
3.
Todos quisiéramos levantarnos felices, que todo sea fácil, ligero y suavecito. Pero no es así.
BB. No podemos dejar que nadie nos impida ir a nuestra Jerusalén, porque allí hay que morir y resucitar.
1.
Si un grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, no puede dar fruto.
2.
Creemos haber alcanzado un nivel y no vemos todo lo que todavía nos falta morir.
3.
Hoy estamos al máximo; pasa una semana, pasa un mes, nos bajan las revoluciones y volvemos a caer.
4.
Cuando seamos verdaderamente espirituales, entenderemos a dónde nos es necesario ir.
II.Jesús vino a la tierra y fue a Jerusalén.
AA. Vino a librarnos, y por eso fue perseguido; así nosotros hemos de morir al viejo hombre.
1.
Llegó en las condiciones que menos esperaba Israel: callado, hablando solo cuando tenía que hablar.
2.
En los tres años en que le tocaba manifestarse, lo único que empieza a recibir es persecución.
BB. Nosotros llegamos a la tierra y nos toca encontrar nuestra Jerusalén.
1.
“Nosotros no matamos, no robamos”: pero cada corazón sabe lo que es necesario que muera en él.
2.
Cada uno sabe lo que hay escondidito que lo perturba y lo pone tibio; y Dios vomita al tibio.
3.
A veces ni lo estamos haciendo, pero está en el pensamiento, en la mente o en el corazón.
4.
Efesios 4:22 y Colosenses 3:5: despojarse del viejo hombre y hacer morir lo terrenal.
CC. La carne es voluntariosa y tiende al pecado.
1.
Es más cómodo ser vago que disciplinado, llegar tarde que llegar temprano.
2.
Eso es lo que nos impide orar y lo que nos impide leer la Biblia.
3.
Si no morimos a la carne, nunca va a salir una vida espiritual: vivimos a medias, tibios.
III.No le huyamos al proceso.
AA. A lo carnal hay que decirle un no rotundo, como a lo que uno sabe que no le gusta.
1.
No es que hoy me gusta un poquito y mañana me sale el yo porque me pasó otra cosa.
2.
Cuando muramos veremos cambio en cómo hablamos y hasta en cómo trabajamos: bien, no a medias.
BB. Nos encanta huirle a los procesos.
1.
Jesús sabía que iba a Jerusalén a padecer; nosotros evitamos el proceso porque no queremos sufrir.
2.
Con los hijos también: el momento de la disciplina es difícil, pero hay que bregarlo.
3.
Cuánto más nuestros procesos de lo profundo: lo que nos ata, lo que nos quita la paz y el gozo.
CC. Es mejor morir a la carne que morir al Espíritu Santo.
1.
Por mucho que hagamos, si no es el sentir del Espíritu Santo, en vano será nuestro trabajo.
2.
Si venimos culto tras culto y no hay algo que grite “ha cambiado”, el Espíritu está siendo en vano.
3.
Qué vergüenza oír: fueron a la iglesia toda la vida y siempre fueron igualitos.
IV.“Quítate de delante de mí, Satanás.”
AA. Pedro no lo dijo con mala intención: Pedro amaba a Jesús con toda su fuerza.
1.
Un hombre duro, de trabajo, no de letras; su corazón latía al tener al Hijo de Dios al frente.
2.
Satanás estaba detrás, para traer ese momento de turbación.
3.
A Jesús nadie le iba a quitar la convicción; pero era humano, escuchaba, y también se le hacía difícil.
BB. Ese es el problema de no ser espirituales: ponemos los ojos en lo humano y no en lo de Dios.
1.
En la carne, en la pena; no en la justicia, no en lo que debe ser.
2.
Los cercanos, en su propia humanidad, nos dicen cosas que nos tientan a no entrar al proceso.
3.
“¿Por qué tú tienes que cambiar? Eso es una bobería”, cuando por dentro uno sabe que sí.
4.
Hay que ser espiritual para saber cuándo hablar y cuándo no hablar.
V.Esperaban otro Mesías.
AA. Esperaban un Mesías guerrero que los libertara de Roma y restaurara el trono de David.
1.
Jesús no vino con ropa resplandeciente ni con grandes armas.
2.
Vino con algo más grande: el amor, la paz, la bondad, la esperanza, el ser piadoso.
BB. A nosotros nos pasa lo mismo cuando nos pasa algo malo.
1.
“Si Dios ha salido conmigo, ¿por qué ahora no salió? ¿Por qué no me has respondido?”
2.
Hay corazones a los que les da rebeldía, porque no fue como Dios quiso bregar.
3.
Por dentro se sienten cosas a las que no les tenemos palabras, y la mente duda y la fe se cae.
4.
Hay que seguir creciendo en fe, porque caemos en la fe.
CC. Hay que entender la trayectoria de nuestra vida y por qué nos pasan las cosas.
1.
Por eso se nos insiste en orar: la mente se centra por lo menos un momento en el día.
2.
Es más fácil obviarlo y seguir como si todo estuviera bien, con la tormenta viniendo por detrás.
3.
Al obstinarnos en ser carnales nos agrietamos, nos hacemos pedazos por dentro y nos atribulamos.
VI.El quebrantamiento.
AA. Para amar como el Señor manda hay que poner empeño; y para romper la dureza hay que ser quebrantados.
1.
Si no, se nos sube el orgullo y decimos: yo sé bregar ante cualquier situación.
2.
Por eso Dios busca quebrantarnos, y hay que estar dispuestos: no le huyamos.
BB. Jesús puso la cabeza en alto y decidió con firmeza ir a Jerusalén.
1.
Sabía todo lo que iba a padecer por nosotros en ese camino.
2.
Imagínense llevar en un solo cuerpo los pecados de la humanidad entera.
3.
La persecución y la muerte no fueron lo grande: lo grande era resucitar glorioso y no quedar derrotado.
CC. Para algunos es bueno esconderse y huir; pero tampoco van a tener resurrección.
1.
“Mejor sigo así, que todo parece chévere y nadie se ha dado cuenta.”
2.
A nadie le importa; pero sí le importa a la pastora y sí le importa a Dios.
3.
No se puede aparentar en lo espiritual, como secarse las lágrimas y aparentar que no se llora.
4.
Nos escondemos detrás de excusas: fue culpa de aquel, de mi esposo, de mis papás.
VII.El enemigo no busca un extraño.
AA. Los nuestros nos toman aparte y nos dicen que no tenemos por qué morir.
1.
“Tú no estás haciendo las cosas tan mal; estate tranquilo, quédate así.”
2.
Entonces nos dejamos usar por Satanás, en vez de ser un buen instrumento.
3.
Somos bien cobardes para decir las verdades, por el susto de lo que vayan a pensar de uno.
BB. El enemigo busca a los más cercanos, porque le es más fácil.
1.
Son las personas que uno ama y respeta las que te pueden hacer titubear.
2.
Hay que llegar a ser espirituales para no hacer el papel de Pedro ni caer ante los Pedros de al lado.
3.
El daño es para uno: soy yo quien quiero estar bien con Dios.
4.
No nos podemos dejar esconder por aquellos que nos aman.
CC. Jesús no miraba a Pedro, sino a Satanás detrás de Pedro.
1.
Pedro era el eco de la voz de quien no quería que Jesús fuera a la cruz.
2.
¿Qué mejor para Satanás si Jesús no moría? Nos hubiese tenido a todos cautivos.
3.
Pedro estaba con Jesús, y aun así Satanás se coló: hay que buscar a Dios todos los días.
VIII.Que nadie nos impida lo que tenemos que vivir.
AA. El sentimiento nos quiere amarrar.
1.
“Yo que busco hacer las cosas bien, y mira lo que me está pasando”: nos damos de víctimas.
2.
Nos gusta que alguien nos pase la manita y nos diga que no fue para tanto.
3.
Esa vocecita apacigua lo que de verdad tenemos que cambiar, y seguimos siendo igual.
BB. El plan del diablo de aprovecharse del sentimiento de Pedro fracasó.
1.
Nada ni nadie nos debe conquistar sino el Padre: él sabe dónde nos va a llevar.
2.
El diablo no viene como el monstruo que es: viene con palabras dulces, con la pena, con el “ay, bendito”.
3.
Si tropezamos con un hombre, miremos lo que está detrás y digamos: vete de mí, Satanás.
4.
Esta lucha no es contra hombre: el diablo no va a buscar a los impíos, viene a sacarnos de aquí.
IX.Toma tu cruz y sígueme (Lucas 9:23).
AA. “Niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz cada día, y sígame.”
1.
Tomar la cruz es estar dispuesto al oprobio, al padecimiento, quizás al martirio por causa de él.
2.
Hoy nadie nos persigue ni nos amenaza con cárcel: para nosotros es morir al pecado, al yo y al mundo.
3.
Negarse es entregarse a su control, de modo que el mundo no tenga derecho en nuestra vida.
4.
“Yo estoy bien así, así soy y así me aguantan”: eso se le dice a los hombres, no a Dios.
BB. Hay que ir a Jerusalén, donde Dios no nos dejará solos.
1.
El proceso no es para pasarlo solos; y si Dios ve la disposición, es mucho más fácil.
2.
Mientras más vivamos para la carne, más se detiene el proceso y más se acumula.
3.
La carne se descompone, pero el espíritu no: envejecemos y se nos acaba la fuerza.
4.
Y mientras más pasan los años, más nos aferramos al yo: hay que ser bien manso y humilde.
CC. El valiente tiene recompensa.
1.
En el Espíritu hay consolación; en la carne, desquite, rebeldía y hablar contra Dios.
2.
Al defender nuestro mal con excusas, lo que hacemos es hacer quedar mal a Dios.
3.
Todo esto que parece tan violento es el amor de Dios: no nos quiere en una llama eterna.
4.
Dejemos de cuidarnos tanto y hagamos la voluntad del Señor: vayamos a nuestra Jerusalén.

I Will Let No One Keep Me From Going To My Jerusalem; There I Will Die And Rise Again
Matthew 16:21-27
Introduction
“From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things… Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him… But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”
Each of us has our own Jerusalem, and each of us knows what we must go and die to; but it is hard for us to stop being “I,” because we say: I was born this way, I grew up this way, this is how I am. The study teaches that unless the grain of wheat falls and dies it cannot bear fruit, and that we sometimes believe we have already died to much while not seeing how much is left. It walks through Jesus’ coming in meekness, against the warrior Messiah the disciples expected; the moment when Peter, with no ill intent whatsoever, becomes the echo of Satan’s voice, because the enemy does not look for a stranger but for the one who loves us and can make us waver; the necessity of being broken so the hardness gives way and we learn to love; and the call of Luke 9:23 to deny oneself and take up the cross daily. It closes with the warning to let no sweet voice soften the process: the harm is our own, and the flesh decays, but the spirit does not.
I.Each of us has our own Jerusalem.
AA. Each of us knows what we must go and die to.
1.
We do not like suffering, and we do not like knowing that we must die to something.
2.
It is hard to stop being “I”: “I was born this way, I grew up this way; why must I change now?”
3.
We would all like to wake up happy, with everything easy, light and smooth. But it is not so.
BB. We cannot let anyone keep us from going to our Jerusalem, for there we must die and rise.
1.
Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it cannot bear fruit.
2.
We think we have reached a level, and do not see all that we still have to die to.
3.
Today we are at our best; a week passes, a month passes, and we fall again.
4.
When we are truly spiritual, then we will understand where it is necessary for us to go.
II.Jesus came to the earth and went to Jerusalem.
AA. He came to deliver us, and for that He was persecuted; so we must die to the old man.
1.
He came in the way Israel least expected: quiet, speaking only when He had to speak.
2.
In the three years He was to be made manifest, all He begins to receive is persecution.
BB. We come into the earth and must find our own Jerusalem.
1.
“We do not kill, we do not steal”: but every heart knows what must die in it.
2.
Each one knows what is hidden there that troubles him and makes him lukewarm; and God spews out the lukewarm.
3.
Sometimes we are not even doing it, but it is in the thought, in the mind, or in the heart.
4.
Ephesians 4:22 and Colossians 3:5: put off the old man and mortify what is earthly.
CC. The flesh is self-willed and inclines to sin.
1.
It is easier to be idle than disciplined, to arrive late than to arrive early.
2.
That is what keeps us from praying and what keeps us from reading the Bible.
3.
If we do not die to the flesh, no spiritual life will come forth: we live by halves, lukewarm.
III.Let us not flee the process.
AA. To the carnal we must say a flat no, as to something we know we do not like.
1.
It is not that today I like it a little and tomorrow the “I” comes out because something happened.
2.
When we die we will see change in how we speak and even in how we work: well, not by halves.
BB. We love to flee the processes.
1.
Jesus knew He went to Jerusalem to suffer; we avoid the process because we do not want to suffer.
2.
It is the same with children: the moment of discipline is hard, but it must be dealt with.
3.
How much more our deepest processes: what binds us, what robs us of peace and of joy.
CC. Better to die to the flesh than to die to the Holy Spirit.
1.
However much we do, if it is not the mind of the Holy Spirit, our work will be in vain.
2.
If we come service after service and nothing cries out “it has changed,” the Spirit is being in vain.
3.
What shame to hear: they went to church all their lives and were always exactly the same.
IV.“Get thee behind me, Satan.”
AA. Peter did not say it with ill intent: Peter loved Jesus with all his strength.
1.
A hard man, a working man, not a man of letters; his heart pounded with the Son of God before him.
2.
Satan was behind it, to bring that moment of disturbance.
3.
No one could take Jesus’ conviction; but He was human, He heard, and it was hard for Him too.
BB. That is the problem of not being spiritual: we set our eyes on what is human, not on what is God’s.
1.
On the flesh, on pity; not on justice, not on what ought to be.
2.
Those close to us, in their own humanity, say things that tempt us not to enter the process.
3.
“Why do you have to change? That is nonsense” — when inside one knows that it must change.
4.
One must be spiritual to know when to speak and when not to speak.
V.They expected a different Messiah.
AA. They expected a warrior Messiah to free them from Rome and restore David’s throne.
1.
Jesus came with no shining robe and no great weapons.
2.
He came with something greater: love, peace, goodness, hope, godliness.
BB. The same happens to us when something bad happens.
1.
“If God has come through for me, why not now? Why have You not answered me yet?”
2.
Some hearts turn rebellious, because it was not how God chose to deal with them.
3.
Inside, things are felt for which we have no words, and the mind doubts and the faith falls.
4.
We must keep growing in faith, because we do fall in faith.
CC. We must understand the trajectory of our life and why things happen to us.
1.
That is why we are urged to pray: the mind is centered for at least one moment in the day.
2.
It is easier to skip it and go on as if all were well, with the storm coming up behind.
3.
Insisting on being carnal, we crack, break to pieces inside, and live troubled.
VI.The breaking.
AA. To love as the Lord commands takes effort; and to break the hardness we must be broken.
1.
Otherwise pride rises and we say: I know how to handle any situation.
2.
That is why God seeks to break us, and we must be willing: let us not flee it.
BB. Jesus lifted His head and resolved firmly to go to Jerusalem.
1.
He knew everything He would suffer for us on that road.
2.
Imagine carrying in one body the sins of all humanity.
3.
The persecution and death were not the great thing: the great thing was to rise glorious, not defeated.
CC. For some it is good to hide and flee; but neither will they have a resurrection.
1.
“Better I go on like this; everything looks fine and no one has noticed.”
2.
No one else cares; but the pastor does care, and God does care.
3.
In spiritual things one cannot pretend, like drying one’s tears and pretending not to have wept.
4.
We hide behind excuses: it was his fault, my husband’s, my parents’.
VII.The enemy does not look for a stranger.
AA. Our own take us aside and tell us we do not have to die.
1.
“You are not doing so badly; take it easy, stay as you are.”
2.
Then we let ourselves be used by Satan, instead of being a good instrument.
3.
We are cowards about telling the truth, afraid of what they will think of us.
BB. The enemy seeks the closest, because it is easier for him.
1.
It is the people we love and respect who can make us waver.
2.
We must become spiritual, so as neither to play Peter’s part nor fall before the Peters beside us.
3.
The harm is our own: it is I who want to be right with God.
4.
We must not let ourselves be hidden by those who love us.
CC. Jesus was not looking at Peter, but at Satan behind Peter.
1.
Peter was the echo of the voice of the one who did not want Jesus to go to the cross.
2.
What better for Satan if Jesus had not died? He would have held us all captive.
3.
Peter was with Jesus, and even so Satan slipped in: we must seek God every day.
VIII.Let nothing and no one keep us from what we must live.
AA. Sentiment wants to bind us.
1.
“I who try to do right, and look what is happening to me”: we play the victim.
2.
We like someone to pat our hand and tell us it was not such a big deal.
3.
That little voice soothes what we truly must change, and we go on the same.
BB. The devil’s plan of using Peter’s sentiment failed.
1.
Nothing and no one should win us but the Father: He knows where He is taking us.
2.
The devil does not come as the monster he is: he comes with sweet words, with pity.
3.
If we stumble over a man, let us look at what is behind and say: get thee behind me, Satan.
4.
This fight is not against man: the devil does not seek the ungodly; he comes to drag us out of here.
IX.Take up your cross and follow Me (Luke 9:23).
AA. “Let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
1.
To take the cross is to be ready for reproach, for suffering, perhaps for martyrdom, for His sake.
2.
Today no one persecutes or jails us: for us it is to die to sin, to self, and to the world.
3.
To deny oneself is to yield to His control, so the world has no right in our life.
4.
“I am fine as I am, this is how I am and this is how they put up with me”: that is said to men, not to God.
BB. We must go to Jerusalem, where God will not leave us alone.
1.
The process is not to be borne alone; and if God sees willingness, it is far easier.
2.
The more we live for the flesh, the more the process is delayed and the more it piles up.
3.
The flesh decays, but the spirit does not: we grow old and our strength runs out.
4.
And the more the years pass, the tighter we cling to self: we must be very meek and humble.
CC. The brave have their reward.
1.
In the Spirit there is consolation; in the flesh, spite, rebellion, and speaking against God.
2.
In defending our own wrong with excuses, what we do is make God look bad.
3.
All that seems so violent is the love of God: He does not want us in an eternal flame.
4.
Let us stop guarding ourselves so much and do the Lord’s will: let us go to our Jerusalem.

Jesús vino en mansedumbre, y lo único que recibió fue persecución. Nosotros no matamos ni robamos, pero cada corazón sabe lo que hay escondidito que lo pone tibio, y Dios vomita al tibio.
La carne es voluntariosa: es más cómodo ser vago que disciplinado, llegar tarde que temprano. Eso nos impide orar y leer la Biblia. Si no morimos a la carne, nunca sale una vida espiritual.
No le huyamos al proceso. A lo carnal se le dice un no rotundo, como al refresco que no te gusta. Qué vergüenza ir a la iglesia toda la vida y ser igualitos.
Pedro no habló con mala intención; amaba a Jesús. Pero puso la mira en lo humano, y Satanás estaba detrás. Los que nos aman nos dicen «¿por qué tienes que cambiar?» cuando por dentro sabemos que sí.
Esperaban un Mesías guerrero, y Jesús vino con algo más grande: amor, paz, bondad. Cuando Dios no brega como esperábamos, nos da rebeldía y la fe se cae; por eso hay que orar y crecer en fe.
Para romper la dureza hay que ser quebrantados; si no, se nos sube el orgullo. El que se esconde y huye no va a la muerte, pero tampoco tendrá resurrección. Basta de excusas.
El enemigo no busca un extraño: busca a los cercanos, y no viene como monstruo sino con palabras dulces y con el «ay, bendito». Niégate a ti mismo y toma tu cruz cada día: el daño es para uno.

Ponle nombre a eso escondidito a lo que te falta morir, y dile un no rotundo, como al refresco que no te gusta: «lo voy a cambiar hoy, punto».

Así lo dice la Biblia. En palabras sencillas: Jesús avisó que tenía que ir a Jerusalén, sufrir, morir y resucitar al tercer día. En la predicación se dijo que si un refresco no te gusta, nadie te convence de tomarlo. Así se le dice que no a lo malo.
1Jesús sabía que en Jerusalén lo iban a matar, y aun así levantó la cabeza y fue, para cargar los pecados de todo el mundo en un solo cuerpo.
2Cada uno tiene su propia Jerusalén: algo malo por dentro a lo que hay que morir. Tú sabes cuál es la tuya, aunque nadie lo vea. Dios sí lo ve.
3Al cuerpo le gusta lo cómodo: ver televisión, llegar tarde, ser vago. Eso no te deja orar ni leer la Biblia. Dile que no.
4Pedro quería mucho a Jesús y le dijo: «no vayas». Pero Jesús vio que detrás de esas palabras cariñosas estaba Satanás, y le contestó: «quítate de delante de mí».
5El diablo no viene como un monstruo feo: viene con palabras dulces, a veces por la boca de alguien que te quiere: «déjalo así». Aprende a decir que no.
6El que se esconde y huye no sufre, pero tampoco resucita. Ir a tu Jerusalén duele, pero después eres nuevo, más manso y con más alegría.
Para conversar en casa
¿Qué cosa tuya sabes que Dios quiere cambiar?
Escoge una sola —una— y dile «no» todos los días, como al refresco que no te gusta, hasta el domingo.
