Debemos conocer los tiempos. Estamos solamente de paso en esta tierra, y la iglesia de Cristo no la componen narradores ni comentaristas, sino hombres y mujeres que doblegan el lomo y hacen la voluntad de Dios. De las siete iglesias que el Señor visita en Apocalipsis, Laodicea es la que no era ni fría ni caliente; y quien le habla no es Juan, sino Jesús mismo, el Amén, el testigo fiel y verdadero. Laodicea presenta una viva imagen de lo que vivimos hoy: vida cómoda por todas partes. El problema de ser tibio es que no compone nada en la historia de la vida.
I.He aquí el Amén, el testigo fiel y verdadero, el principio de la creación de Dios, dice esto (Apocalipsis 3:14).
AA. Quien habla a Laodicea es Jesús.
1.
Laodicea significa el gobierno del pueblo, o el juicio de parte del pueblo; ese era el sentido de aquella iglesia.
2.
Tengamos cuidado: esta área de Apocalipsis no la escribió Juan por su cuenta. Cuando está en letra roja, se señala muy claro que esas palabras fueron dichas por Jesús, que le llevaba el paso a todas esas iglesias.
3.
Él es el Amén, el verdadero, el cierto: el que no miró lo que somos, sino que sencillamente dijo: voy a dar mi vida por ellos.
4.
Es la encarnación: la promesa del Hijo de Dios personificada y materializada. Dios se la prometió a Israel en el Antiguo Testamento, y el Antiguo Testamento habla de nuestro Señor Jesús; después se repartió a los gentiles.
5.
Él es el principio, y comenzó toda la creación. La teología se levantó para porfiar, discutir y reclamar el saber; amar las Escrituras es aceptarlas tal cual ellas son.
BB. Toda oración se hace en su nombre.
1.
Si no dices en el nombre de Jesús, esa oración la estás pidiendo tú en tu nombre, y en tu nombre no se te va a dar nada. Es doctrinal.
2.
Porque entonces Dios ya no te ve a ti como persona, sino que ve a Jesús; y todo lo que Jesús le pide al Padre es contestado.
3.
Si tú oras en el nombre de Jesús, de inmediato se convierte en acción el Espíritu Santo; porque el que lo hace todo es el Espíritu Santo, por medio de la muerte y de la sangre de Cristo.
4.
No nos metamos con ninguna iglesia ni averigüemos nada de ninguna otra, porque uno llega a términos de juzgar, medir, sugerir y comentar, y eso ya son aguas profundas.
II.Yo conozco tus obras, que ni eres frío ni caliente (Apocalipsis 3:15-16).
AA. Por no ser ni frío ni caliente, es abominablemente detestable.
1.
El problema de ser tibio es que no vamos a componer nada en la historia de la vida. Un tibio lucha absolutamente para sí: viene a los cultos, los coros son bonitos, se sentó a escuchar y no pudo recapacitar.
2.
Por eso hay acciones que debía haber tomado y no ha tomado, y caminos que debería estar caminando y no ha caminado. Es fácil convertirse en tibio; no es complicado.
3.
Dios va a dar una llama de fuego, y la iglesia necesita fuego. Si hay fuego es porque hay aceite, y si hay aceite es que está el Espíritu Santo; y el fuego no debe apagarse.
4.
Tan fácil se negocia con el mundo que se le apaga el fuego como si nada.
5.
El café frío se suelta, porque lo caliente conserva lo genuino; y una comida tibia tampoco sabe igual. Todo lo que es tibio siempre va a producir el cambio del genuino sabor.
6.
El Señor hubiera preferido que fueran extremados: en su indiferencia o en su celo. Si hay algo que debemos ser en el Señor es extremadamente apasionados, en un amor, en un fuego.
BB. Una tibieza que engañaba.
1.
Laodicea era lo suficientemente tibia como para engañar a la gente y hacerle pensar que era una iglesia de Dios; y era tan repugnantemente tibia en las cosas divinas que causaba asco al Altísimo.
2.
Hoy se ven movimientos donde las aberraciones son aceptadas, y aun con todo lo que se publica y con los testimonios de las personas, la gente se sigue congregando allí.
3.
¿Y por qué el ser humano queda cautivo? Porque no hay predicadores que se levanten y digan: no, eso no.
4.
Esta iglesia estaba caracterizada por orgullo, ignorancia, autosuficiencia y complacencia. Así es como se cae.
5.
Cuando el hombre y la mujer son seres espirituales, no los mueve nadie; y si hay confusión, el Espíritu Santo que está en uno le abre los ojos.
III.Yo te aconsejo que de mí compres oro refinado en fuego, vestiduras blancas, y unjas tus ojos con colirio (Apocalipsis 3:18).
AA. Oro refinado en fuego: la fe sometida a prueba.
1.
Nosotros no debemos estar esquivando las pruebas: hagamos frente a la prueba, porque te haces un guerrero y porque estás pasando por fuego.
2.
No le huyas al fuego. Ay, que yo no puedo con esto; ay, que es demasiado; ay, que estoy deprimido; lo que quiero es dormir y no despertarme. No: su fe está siendo examinada.
3.
En las pruebas tú vas a dar la realidad que hay en tu vida. Si te sometes, verás que cuando pases esa prueba resulta en alabanza, gloria y honra en la revelación de Jesucristo.
4.
Podemos caminar movidos por fe, y la fe es la certeza de lo que no se ve.
BB. Vestidura blanca: la justicia práctica.
1.
Cuando tú te conviertes eres una persona de justicia, y esa justicia tiene que ser práctica.
2.
Lo que es un no es un no, y lo que es un sí es un sí; lo que hay que batallar, hay que batallarlo; lo que hay que vivir, hay que vivirlo, en la vida diaria.
CC. Colirio: una verdadera visión espiritual.
1.
El colirio es una gota para cuando los ojos están enfermos. Echarse gotas en los ojos es conseguir una verdadera visión espiritual por medio del alumbramiento del Espíritu Santo.
2.
Si tú te llenas del Espíritu Santo, tu vida va a ser un éxito: es llenarse de cabeza a pies para ser compañero de guerra, sin miedo y sin temor, para enseñar y para que otros aprendan.
3.
Cuando uno se prepara completamente con el Espíritu Santo, los poros manan y la vida mana.
4.
Este consejo era especialmente apropiado por cuanto Laodicea era conocida como centro bancario, por su industria textil y por sus productos medicinales, especialmente el colirio.
DD. Yo reprendo y castigo a todos los que amo (Apocalipsis 3:19).
1.
Un padre que no disciplina ni reprende es un padre que está dejando que su hijo se malgaste. El que ama, reprende.
2.
Si a Dios no le hubiera interesado Laodicea, la dejaba así; pero la estaba reprendiendo. Si no le preocupara, no actuaría así.
3.
Con una ternura paciente llama a esta iglesia nominal a ser celosa y a que se arrepienta. Dios quiere que seamos celosos con lo suyo y que no se contamine con nadie.
4.
Y que seamos capaces de tener un arrepentimiento todos los días, porque al que sabe hacer lo bueno y no lo hace, le es pecado.
IV.He aquí, yo estoy a la puerta y llamo (Apocalipsis 3:20-22).
AA. Llama con cortesía, para tener comunión.
1.
¿Sabes cuántas veces te ha llamado el Señor con cortesía y te ha invitado? ¿Le has respondido? El día se va a poner peor, está a la vuelta de la esquina y viene con cadenas.
2.
Acuérdate de que a Sansón, mientras lo amarraban, él estaba fuerte y vencía; y llegó un momento en que ya no se pudo soltar.
3.
Lo que Dios quiere es que tengas comunión con Él. No es estar veinticuatro horas arrodillado: es que en todo lo que se hace tú sabes que Él está presente, porque Él vive.
4.
Jesús nunca tiene preferencia. Cuando se llegue al cielo se dará de acuerdo con lo que tú hayas hecho, pero no por preferencia: se recompensa, porque Dios siempre paga lo que uno hace.
BB. Cada uno es dueño en la casa de su propio corazón.
1.
Él ha de abrir sus puertas. Tiene la solemne prerrogativa, ese privilegio, de escoger o de rehusar abrir.
2.
Pero si rehúsa, está ciegamente luchando contra su propia felicidad, y al fin y al cabo se convierte en un desventurado.
3.
Promete al vencedor que compartirá la gloria del trono de Cristo y que reinará con Él. Pero acuérdate de que vas a tener que seguirlo en humildad, en que te rechacen y en mucho sufrimiento.
4.
Los que le sigan en humildad, rechazo y sufrimiento, le seguirán también en gloria. Y por última vez se aconseja al oyente que dé atención a la voz del Espíritu: hay que aprender a escuchar.
CC. La imagen de nuestros propios días.
1.
Laodicea presenta una viva imagen de lo que vivimos: vida cómoda por todas partes. Lo que se descubre es que el hermano busca una sola cosa, el bien suyo, y no a Cristo crucificado.
2.
El cuerpo de Cristo no es buscar lo de uno: es buscar al Cristo crucificado, porque el crucificado resucitó al tercer día. Y para que el Espíritu Santo descendiera, Jesús tuvo que ser crucificado.
3.
Dios conmueve, y el humano puede sentirlo, pero no está dispuesto a tener un corazón manso, porque quiere estar siempre hablando lo que opina y lo que sugiere; y el que tiene un espíritu manso está en silencio y doblega.
4.
No se quieren las llagas de Cristo; se quiere corona más que cruces. Criticamos a todo el mundo y no nos lanzamos a luchar por nadie, y nos agitamos más por lo vano que por Cristo.
5.
Hay poco sentimiento de necesidad espiritual y poco anhelo de un verdadero avivamiento. Avivamiento es cuando las vidas cambian, cuando el pensamiento se hace santo, cuando la compasión nos acompaña y cuando nos desesperamos por otro.
6.
Acumulamos en lugar de abandonar y amontonamos tesoros en la tierra. Una casa no satisface y los ojos no se satisfacen; pero hacer el bien y levantar a los hijos mansos, eso sí. Esta es nuestra condición en víspera del regreso de Cristo. Amén.

To Laodicea
Revelation 3:14-22
Introduction
We must know the times. We are only passing through this earth, and the church of Christ is not made up of narrators or commentators, but of men and women who bend the back and do the will of God. Of the seven churches the Lord visits in Revelation, Laodicea is the one that was neither cold nor hot; and the one who speaks to her is not John but Jesus Himself, the Amen, the faithful and true witness. Laodicea presents a vivid picture of what we live today: a comfortable life on every side. The trouble with being lukewarm is that it settles nothing in the history of a life.
I.These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God (Revelation 3:14).
AA. The one who speaks to Laodicea is Jesus.
1.
Laodicea means the rule of the people, or the judgment on the part of the people; that was the sense of that church.
2.
Let us take care: this portion of Revelation was not written by John on his own. Where it stands in red letters, it is marked plainly that those words were spoken by Jesus, who kept pace with every one of those churches.
3.
He is the Amen, the true one, the certain one: the one who did not look at what we are, but simply said, I am going to give my life for them.
4.
It is the incarnation: the promise of the Son of God personified and made material. God promised it to Israel in the Old Testament, and the Old Testament speaks of our Lord Jesus; afterward it was shared out to the Gentiles.
5.
He is the beginning, and He began all creation. Theology arose to argue, to dispute, and to claim knowledge; to love the Scriptures is to accept them just as they are.
BB. Every prayer is made in His name.
1.
If you do not say in the name of Jesus, you are asking in your own name, and in your own name nothing will be given to you. It is doctrinal.
2.
For then God no longer sees you as a person, but sees Jesus; and everything Jesus asks of the Father is answered.
3.
If you pray in the name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is at once set into action; for the one who does everything is the Holy Spirit, through the death and the blood of Christ.
4.
Let us not meddle with any other church nor look into its affairs, for one comes to the point of judging, measuring, suggesting, and commenting, and those are already deep waters.
II.I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot (Revelation 3:15-16).
AA. For being neither cold nor hot, it is abominably detestable.
1.
The trouble with being lukewarm is that we will settle nothing in the history of a life. A lukewarm person struggles wholly for himself: he comes to the services, the songs are lovely, he sat down to listen and could not take it to heart.
2.
So there are actions he ought to have taken and has not taken, and roads he ought to be walking and has not walked. It is easy to become lukewarm; it is not complicated.
3.
God will give a flame of fire, and the church needs fire. If there is fire it is because there is oil, and if there is oil it is because the Holy Spirit is there; and the fire must not go out.
4.
So easily is a bargain struck with the world that the fire is put out as though it were nothing.
5.
Cold coffee is set down, because what is hot preserves what is genuine; and lukewarm food does not taste the same either. Everything lukewarm will always bring about a change in the genuine flavor.
6.
The Lord would have preferred them to be at an extreme: in their indifference or in their zeal. If there is anything we ought to be in the Lord, it is extremely passionate, in a love, in a fire.
BB. A lukewarmness that deceived.
1.
Laodicea was lukewarm enough to deceive people into thinking she was a church of God; and she was so repugnantly lukewarm in divine things that she was loathsome to the Most High.
2.
Today one sees movements where aberrations are accepted, and even with all that is published and all the testimonies people have given, the crowds go on gathering there.
3.
And why is the human being held captive? Because there are no preachers who rise up and say: no, not that.
4.
This church was further marked by pride, ignorance, self-sufficiency, and complacency. That is how one falls.
5.
When a man and a woman are spiritual beings, no one moves them; and if there is confusion, the Holy Spirit within opens their eyes.
III.I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, white raiment, and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve (Revelation 3:18).
AA. Gold tried in the fire: faith put to the test.
1.
We ought not to be dodging the trials: let us face the trial, for it makes you a warrior and because you are passing through fire.
2.
Do not flee the fire. I cannot bear this; it is too much; I am depressed; all I want is to sleep and not wake up. No: your faith is being examined.
3.
In the trials you will show the reality that is in your life. If you submit, you will see that when you pass that trial it results in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
4.
We can walk moved by faith, and faith is the evidence of things not seen.
BB. White raiment: practical righteousness.
1.
When you are converted you are a person of righteousness, and that righteousness has to be practical.
2.
What is a no is a no, and what is a yes is a yes; what must be fought for must be fought for; what must be lived must be lived, in daily life.
CC. Eyesalve: a true spiritual sight.
1.
Eyesalve is a drop for when the eyes are ailing. To anoint the eyes is to obtain true spiritual sight through the enlightening of the Holy Spirit.
2.
If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, your life will be a success: it is to be filled from head to foot so as to be a companion in war, without fear and without dread, to teach and so that others may learn.
3.
When one is fully prepared with the Holy Spirit, the pores run over and the life runs over.
4.
This counsel was especially fitting since Laodicea was known as a banking center, for its textile industry, and for its medicinal products, the eyesalve above all.
DD. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten (Revelation 3:19).
1.
A father who does not discipline or rebuke is a father letting his child go to waste. He who loves, rebukes.
2.
If God had not cared for Laodicea, He would have left her so; but He was rebuking her. If she did not concern Him, He would not act this way.
3.
With patient tenderness He calls this nominal church to be zealous and to repent. God wants us zealous for what is His, and not defiled by anyone.
4.
And He wants us able to repent every day, for to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
IV.Behold, I stand at the door, and knock (Revelation 3:20-22).
AA. He knocks with courtesy, to have communion.
1.
Do you know how many times the Lord has called you with courtesy and invited you? Have you answered Him? The day is going to grow worse; it is around the corner, and it comes with chains.
2.
Remember that while they were binding Samson he was strong and prevailed; and a moment came when he could no longer break free.
3.
What God wants is that you have communion with Him. It is not to be twenty-four hours on your knees: it is that in everything you do, you know He is present, because He lives.
4.
Jesus never shows favoritism. When we reach heaven it will be given according to what you have done, not by preference: it is rewarded, because God always pays what one does.
BB. Each one is master in the house of his own heart.
1.
He must open his doors. He has the solemn prerogative, that privilege, to choose or to refuse to open.
2.
But if he refuses, he is blindly fighting against his own happiness, and in the end he becomes a wretched man.
3.
He promises the overcomer that he will share the glory of the throne of Christ and reign with Him. But remember that you will have to follow Him in humility, in being rejected, and in much suffering.
4.
Those who follow Him in humility, rejection, and suffering will follow Him also in glory. And one last time the hearer is counseled to give heed to the voice of the Spirit: we must learn to listen.
CC. The picture of our own days.
1.
Laodicea presents a vivid picture of what we live: a comfortable life on every side. What is found is that the brother seeks one thing only, his own good, and not Christ crucified.
2.
The body of Christ is not the seeking of one's own: it is the seeking of Christ crucified, for the crucified one rose on the third day. And for the Holy Spirit to descend, Jesus had to be crucified.
3.
God stirs, and the human being can feel it, but he is not willing to have a meek heart, because he wants always to be saying what he thinks and what he suggests; and the one with a meek spirit is silent and bends.
4.
The wounds of Christ are not wanted; a crown is wanted more than crosses. We criticize everyone and throw ourselves into the fight for no one, and we are stirred more by what is empty than by Christ.
5.
There is little sense of spiritual need and little longing for a true revival. Revival is when lives change, when the thoughts become holy, when compassion attends us, and when we are desperate for another.
6.
We accumulate instead of forsaking, and we heap up treasure on the earth. A house does not satisfy and the eyes are not satisfied; but doing good and raising children to be meek, that does. This is our condition on the eve of the return of Christ. Amen.

El Señor aconseja comprar oro refinado en fuego, vestidura blanca y colirio: fe probada sin huirle a la prueba, justicia práctica donde el no es no y el sí es sí, y visión espiritual por el Espíritu Santo.
Yo reprendo y castigo a todos los que amo. Un padre que no disciplina deja que su hijo se malgaste; si a Dios no le interesara Laodicea, la dejaba así. Por eso pide arrepentimiento todos los días.
Jesús está a la puerta y llama con cortesía. Cada uno es dueño en la casa de su propio corazón y puede abrir o rehusar; pero el que rehúsa lucha ciegamente contra su propia felicidad. Hay que aprender a escuchar.

Así lo dice la Biblia. En palabras sencillas: Jesús no quiere un corazón a medias, ni frío ni caliente, porque lo tibio le da asco. La pastora contó que ella toma café, y cuando va por el cuarto sorbo ya está frío y lo suelta: a ella le gusta caliente.
1Quien le habla a la iglesia de Laodicea no es Juan: es Jesús mismo. Y Jesús conoce tus obras, todo lo que haces, aunque nadie más lo vea.
2Un café tibio no sabe bien, y una comida tibia tampoco. Un corazón tibio es el que viene a la iglesia, canta los coros bonitos, y se va sin cambiar nada.
3Jesús le dio tres consejos: oro probado en fuego, que es no huirle a lo difícil; ropa blanca, que es que tu sí sea sí y tu no sea no; y gotas para ver bien.
4Jesús también corrige, y lo hace porque ama. Un papá que nunca corrige deja que su hijo se malgaste. Si a Dios no le importaras, no te corregiría.
5Jesús está a la puerta de tu corazón y toca con cortesía, sin empujar. Solo tú puedes abrir. Pero el que no abre está peleando contra su propia felicidad.
Para conversar en casa
¿Tu corazón está caliente, frío o tibio con Jesús?
Escoge una sola cosa —una— para no ser tibio, como orar cada mañana o leer un versículo, y hazla todos los días hasta el próximo domingo.
