El mensaje empieza en el minuto 33:15.

Introducción

“Los pueblos, pues, trabajarán para el fuego, y las naciones se fatigarán en vano.”

Hoy Dios escribe nombres, como desde que comenzó a obrar en la tierra; ese día, solo los lee. Y los que se leerán son los del que permanece hasta el final. Este estudio expone qué significa trabajar para el fuego —el esfuerzo real, el cansancio real, y el resultado nulo— y termina ante el gran trono blanco. Una aclaración recorre todo el mensaje y la expositora la hace expresa: el tema no es la salvación, que es por la sangre de Cristo, sino el servicio y la recompensa. Se puede entrar al cielo con las manos vacías.

I.Todo esfuerzo sin Dios termina inútil (Habacuc 2:13)

A. Lo que se hace sin Dios o en oposición a Él termina siendo completamente inútil, porque Dios mismo sale a defender su propia causa.

B. Las naciones pueden construir imperios y acumular poder, riqueza o gloria; pero si todo está basado en injusticia, soberbia o violencia, acabará destruido, como algo que solo sirve para alimentar el fuego.

C. Lo que más le gusta al ser humano es juzgar, y es muy fácil hablar sin el temor de Dios. Con eso uno devasta su propia vida.

D. Quien trabaja por sus propias fuerzas vuelve la vida vengativa: te tiran la basura y la devuelves, te tocan bocina y la devuelves. Así uno mismo trabaja en contra de sí mismo.

E. Todo mal que uno pretende hacerle a otro se le vuelca a uno. Y los ángeles escriben.

II.Toda siembra tiene cosecha (Habacuc 2:16)

A. "Te has llenado de deshonra más que de honra… el cáliz de la mano derecha de Jehová vendrá hasta ti."

B. La cosecha se devuelve para uno: quien sembró es quien tiene que comerse lo que agarre del árbol.

C. Hoy se piensa que se puede caminar a la deriva, hacer, deshacer, opinar, y que "no pasa nada". Pasa mucho: de cada acto hemos de dar cuenta.

D. Por eso el Padrenuestro dice "perdona mis deudas": porque olvidamos lo que hicimos y nunca hubo arrepentimiento —por lo hecho con intención, o sin querer, o con un tantito de perversidad—, y la historia de uno se va llenando de mal.

E. Por eso cuesta orar: la oración no es para pedir salud o cosas, es ir a Dios en confesión, para arrepentimiento, y levantarse.

III.Qué significa el fuego (Jeremías 51:58)

A. El fuego simboliza juicio, destrucción y consumo total: es trabajo que no permanece, que se quema y desaparece.

B. Se vive para el fuego cuando se insulta, se detesta, no se ayuda ni se hace el bien que nos toca. Y la Iglesia de Cristo no puede ser eso.

C. "Yo no como con nadie, conmigo que nadie se meta": pero somos una cadena, y si se vive así, la generación que viene detrás será peor. ¿Por qué fue Jesús a la cruz? Porque la gente le importaba.

D. "Y las naciones se fatigarán en vano": esfuerzo intenso, sacrificio, sudor; y ningún fruto eterno. Por grande que parezca una nación o un proyecto, sin Dios como fundamento todo es esfuerzo en vano.

E. El ser humano se cansa de la gente y del atropello; pero el justo no se puede cansar, porque si no, ¿qué bien habrá en la tierra? La madre que se cansa del hijo le echó fuego a todo, y la cosecha será soledad y amargura.

F. Babilonia era humanamente invencible —muros gigantescos, puertas fortificadas, ingeniería avanzada— y Dios declaró que caería. Si Babilonia cayó, cae cualquiera.

G. El fuego es juicio irreversible: no es daño parcial, es destrucción total; lo que parecía permanente no resiste.

IV.Lo que sí permanece (Salmo 127:1)

A. "Si Jehová no edificare la casa, en vano trabajan los que la edifican." Si Él no hace, todo lo que yo hago es bancarrota.

B. Cada uno tiene algo que edificar en la tierra, y solo tiene un tiempo para hacerlo; por muchos años que sean, es un tiempo.

C. No dejes que los tormentos del camino te detengan: si te detienes, no edificas; si no edificas, no construiste; y llegará el día del llanto y de la desesperación.

D. Nadie fue hecho para vivir solo; si así fuera, Dios habría puesto a cada uno en una isla.

E. Con nuestras propias fuerzas no hacemos nada: hoy contentos y mañana cansados. Si uno se estudia, verá que todo le molesta; y así se convierte todo en fuego.

V.La obra que se quema (1 Corintios 3:15)

A. "Si la obra de alguno se quemare, él sufrirá pérdida." No habla de pecado no confesado: habla de la obra cristiana hecha con malas motivaciones, superficialmente, con dependencia humana.

B. Visitar al que no viene para preguntarle "¿nadie de la iglesia te ha visitado?" en vez de "no te he visto, ¿qué te ha pasado?": eso son malas motivaciones, y son pan comido.

C. El tema aquí no es la salvación: es el servicio. La expositora lo dice expresamente.

D. "Voy a una iglesia, pero no quiero ver a nadie": somos un cuerpo. Si aquí no soportas al hermano, ¿qué harás con él en el cielo? Y quien enseña a sus hijos a amar a la iglesia los guarda de apartarse.

E. El fuego no prueba al creyente: prueba la calidad de lo que el creyente hizo.

F. "Sufrirá pérdida" es pérdida de recompensa. Los ángeles apuntan el bien que se hace, y eso sube. No es castigo: son oportunidades desperdiciadas.

G. "Él mismo será salvo": ahí está la gracia. La salvación no depende de obras, Cristo sigue siendo el fundamento. Pero se entra con las manos vacías, como quien escapa de un incendio: vive, pero lo perdió todo.

H. Y no hace falta irse lejos: el servicio está al lado, y llega solo; no hay que desesperarse buscándolo.

VI.El gran trono blanco (Apocalipsis 20:11-15)

A. "Un gran trono blanco": grande por la autoridad suprema y universal; blanco por la justicia absoluta, sin mezcla. Y todos comparecemos ante él.

B. El que está sentado es Cristo, como juez: "porque el Padre a nadie juzga, mas todo el juicio dio al Hijo" (Juan 5:22). Se lo dio porque Él vino y murió en la cruz para limpiarnos; si el Padre tuviera que juzgar, nadie quedaría.

C. "De delante del cual huyeron la tierra y el cielo": desaparece el orden de lo creado. No hay refugio físico ni histórico, ni en sistemas, ni en naciones, ni en ninguna religión.

D. "Los muertos, grandes y pequeños": todos comparecen, poderosos y anónimos; la muerte no excluye del juicio.

E. "Y los libros fueron abiertos": dos tipos de libros. Los libros, en plural, registran las obras; y el libro de la vida registra los nombres. Las obras no salvan, pero testifican.

F. "Fueron juzgados cada uno según sus obras": juicio personal y no colectivo, con evidencia completa; nadie es condenado por falta de oportunidad.

G. "La muerte y el Hades fueron lanzados al lago de fuego" (1 Corintios 15:26). La muerte no es natural ni amiga: entró por el pecado (Génesis 3) y es una intrusa; Dios nunca la presenta como descanso final.

H. "El que no se halló inscrito en el libro de la vida." No dice el que tuvo más pecado ni el que hizo menos obras: dice el que no estaba inscrito. El juicio no gira sobre cuánto hiciste, sino sobre si pertenecías a Cristo.

VII.Aplicación

A. Pregúntate para qué estás trabajando. Mucha actividad y cero eternidad es trabajar para el fuego.

B. Examina tus motivaciones, no solo tus obras. La misma visita puede ser servicio o puede ser leña.

C. Ora por alguien que no seas tú. Si nadie cabe en tu existencia, no hay obra que presentar.

D. No te canses de trabajar a los tuyos: al que se cansa le queda soledad y amargura.

E. Enseña a los tuyos a amar a la iglesia; quien la ama no se aparta.

F. Asegúrate de que tu nombre esté inscrito, porque ese es el criterio del juicio; y no entres con las manos vacías.

Today God Writes Names; On That Day, He Only Reads Them

Habakkuk 2:13

Introduction

“The people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity.”

Today God writes names, as He has since He began to work on the earth; on that day, He only reads them. And the ones read out are those of whoever endures to the end. This study expounds what it means to labor for the fire —real effort, real weariness, and a result of nothing— and ends before the great white throne. One clarification runs through the whole message, and the expositor makes it explicit: the subject is not salvation, which is by the blood of Christ, but service and reward. A person can enter heaven empty-handed.

I.Every effort without God ends up useless (Habakkuk 2:13)

A. Whatever is done without God, or against Him, ends up completely useless, because God Himself comes out to defend His own cause.

B. Nations can build empires and pile up power, riches, or glory; but if it all rests on injustice, arrogance, or violence, it will end destroyed, as something fit only to feed the fire.

C. What human beings love most is to judge, and it is very easy to speak without the fear of God. With that a person lays waste to his own life.

D. Whoever works by his own strength turns life vengeful: they dump trash on you and you dump it back, they honk at you and you honk back. That way a person works against himself.

E. Every harm a person means to do to another comes back on himself. And the angels are writing.

II.Every sowing has a harvest (Habakkuk 2:16)

A. "Thou art filled with shame for glory… the cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned unto thee."

B. The harvest comes back to the sower: whoever planted is the one who has to eat what he pulls off the tree.

C. Today people think they can drift along, do and undo, opine, and that "nothing happens". Much happens: for every act we will give account.

D. That is why the Lord's Prayer says "forgive us our debts": we forget what we did and never repented —what was done deliberately, or carelessly, or with a touch of malice— and a person's history fills up with wrong.

E. That is why praying is hard: prayer is not for asking for health or things; it is going to God in confession, to repentance, and getting back up.

III.What the fire means (Jeremiah 51:58)

A. Fire stands for judgment, destruction, total consumption: work that does not last, that burns and disappears.

B. A person lives for the fire when he insults, when he despises, when he does not help or do the good that falls to him. And the Church of Christ cannot be that.

C. "I keep to myself, let nobody meddle with me": but we are a chain, and if a person lives that way, the generation behind him will be worse. Why did Jesus go to the cross? Because people mattered to Him.

D. "The people shall weary themselves": intense effort, sacrifice, sweat; and no eternal fruit. However great a nation or a project may seem, without God as its foundation it is all effort in vain.

E. Human beings grow tired of people and of mistreatment; but the righteous cannot grow tired, or what good would be left on the earth? The mother who gives up on her child has set fire to everything, and the harvest will be loneliness and bitterness.

F. Babylon was humanly unconquerable —giant walls, fortified gates, advanced engineering— and God declared it would fall. If Babylon fell, anyone falls.

G. The fire is irreversible judgment: not partial damage but total destruction; what looked permanent does not hold.

IV.What does last (Psalm 127:1)

A. "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it." If He does not do it, everything I do is bankruptcy.

B. Each person has something to build on earth, and only a span of time to do it; however many years, it is a span.

C. Do not let the torments along the way stop you: if you stop, you do not build; if you do not build, you built nothing; and the day of weeping and despair will come.

D. No one was made to live alone; if that were so, God would have placed each one on an island.

E. By our own strength we do nothing: happy today, worn out tomorrow. Examine yourself and you will see that everything irritates you; and that is how it all turns into fire.

V.The work that burns (1 Corinthians 3:15)

A. "If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss." This is not about unconfessed sin: it is about Christian work done with wrong motives, superficially, in human dependence.

B. Visiting the one who stopped coming in order to ask "hasn't anyone from church come to see you?" instead of "I haven't seen you, what happened?": those are wrong motives, and they are commonplace.

C. The subject here is not salvation: it is service. The expositor says so explicitly.

D. "I go to a church, but I don't want to see anybody": we are one body. If you cannot stand a brother here, what will you do with him in heaven? And whoever teaches his children to love the church keeps them from falling away.

E. The fire does not test the believer: it tests the quality of what the believer did.

F. "He shall suffer loss" means loss of reward. The angels record the good that is done, and it goes up. This is not punishment: these are wasted opportunities.

G. "But he himself shall be saved": there is the grace. Salvation does not depend on works; Christ remains the foundation. But a person enters empty-handed, like someone escaping a fire: he lives, but he lost everything.

H. And no one has to travel far: the service is right beside you, and it comes on its own; there is no need to go hunting for it.

VI.The great white throne (Revelation 20:11-15)

A. "A great white throne": great for its supreme and universal authority; white for absolute justice, unmixed. And all of us appear before it.

B. The one seated is Christ, as judge: "for the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son" (John 5:22). It was given to Him because He came and died on the cross to cleanse us; if the Father had to judge, no one would stand.

C. "From whose face the earth and the heaven fled away": the order of all creation disappears. There is no physical or historical refuge, not in systems, not in nations, not in any religion.

D. "The dead, small and great": all appear, the powerful and the unknown; death does not exempt anyone from judgment.

E. "And the books were opened": two kinds of books. The books, plural, record the works; and the book of life records the names. Works do not save, but they testify.

F. "And they were judged every man according to their works": personal judgment, not collective, with complete evidence; no one is condemned for lack of opportunity.

G. "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire" (1 Corinthians 15:26). Death is not natural or friendly: it entered through sin (Genesis 3) and is an intruder; God never presents it as a final rest.

H. "Whosoever was not found written in the book of life." It does not say the one who sinned most, nor the one who did fewest works: it says the one not written. The judgment does not turn on how much you did, but on whether you belonged to Christ.

VII.Application

A. Ask yourself what you are working for. Much activity and zero eternity is working for the fire.

B. Examine your motives, not just your deeds. The same visit can be service or it can be firewood.

C. Pray for someone other than yourself. If no one fits inside your life, there is no work to present.

D. Do not grow tired of working on your own people: whoever gives up is left with loneliness and bitterness.

E. Teach your children to love the church; whoever loves it does not fall away.

F. Make sure your name is written, because that is the criterion of the judgment; and do not arrive empty-handed.
