The Flesh, Death

TOPIC: "The Flesh, Death" Galatians 5:13-24

Our conduct, our conversation should be under the "control" of the Spirit, and we should not allow the desires of the inferior part of our nature, the flesh, get away with it. Your wrongdoing is your flesh, it is not the problems, it is not one or the other, it is simply YOUR FLESH!

I. Our evil is the flesh:

A. The Holy Spirit is very necessary to us because He is the one who fights on our behalf vs the flesh.

1. They both radically oppose, the Spirit and the flesh (Vs. 17)

2. The battle that the Spirit leads against the flesh is constant and it is so that we do not do what we want.

3. A certain soldier said: "I am a man, and a man is a mixture from the moment of his birth: one part comes from the earth and another part, from heaven."

4. Something Paul knew: that Christian freedom cannot be taken as freedom to please the flesh, but that it is to lead us in the life of the Spirit (Vs. 13).

5. In many occasions our carnal behavior leads us to many problems, but the Spirit leads us to good. Walking according to the Spirit leads us to get rid of evil; to not destroy us.

6. The works of the flesh are FORNICATION (relationships between unmarried) and ADULTERY (relationships between someone married with someone who is not his spouse (Vs. 19). If you stop looking for the Holy Spirit, you become a prey to the flesh. We can live by the Spirit IN PURITY. In the world it is thought that sin is proper in a normal life. The believer is not of this world, although he lives in the world; we love Christ and keep His commandments with the help of the Holy Spirit.

7. THE UNCLEAN is impurity. It's like pus from an infected wound. Impurity, then, is what makes a person unable to participate in the cults of God. Impurity is what puts someone in a position that does not allow him to approach God, it is the contamination of life with things that separate men from God. One has to know how to distinguish between the holy and the profane!

8. LUST AND LASCIVIOUSNESS are debauchery. Those who practice such things live only for carnal delights. There is no restraint in them and that is what condemns them, the carnal. They live unrestrained, they do everything that caprice and insolence (without respect, daring) can suggest. They are so advanced in their carnal desires that they no longer care what others can say or think!

9. IDOLATRY (Vs. 20) is the sin in which material things come to displace God and take His place. Do the material things fill you so much?

10. WITCHCRAFT (Sorcery) is mixed with the effect of alcohol, cigar, etc.

11. ENMITY brings abusive hostility. It is when one is aggressive with their fellowman. That happens if your life is carnal and you do not let the Spirit work. We must die to that flesh that is cruel to others!

12. RIVALRY brings many disputes. That enmity comes to those who want the same things.

13. JEALOUSY comes from the desire to have what others have, a bad desire for what does not belong to us. COVETOUSNESS is to desire what belongs to others, it is a sin. (Exodus 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey,

or anything that belongs to your neighbor.") God gives to each one. When you covet what others have, you figure it out, and because of your desire to covet, you then desire what God has given to the other. It is as if you wanted to go to God and say to Him: "You do not know how to distribute, what he has is for me." No! Enjoy what God gives you!

14. RAGE is a fury, explosions of anger. It is a tantrum that becomes inflamed and is soon consumed.

15. SELFISH AMBITIONS arise because of the personal interest of those who want to excel. They do not live to provide a service to someone, but to obtain the maximum personal benefit in what they do. The carnal always seeks what is for him. Those guided by the Spirit are different, they only seek to do what the Spirit wants.

16. DISSENTION is wanting to remain apart, they are the ones who separate themselves more and more instead of coming closer.

17. HERESIES come with people who question, with those who present themselves with a controversial or novel concept, with certain beliefs that conflict with those established in the sacred, that break with the rules of the Gospel. Heresies are contrary to biblical principles.

18. ENVY (Vs. 21) I always say it; the envy makes you lose your best friends. It is the worst of diseases. The essence of the envious is not that he wants to have what the other person possesses, but rather that it bothers him that the other has those things or those qualities. It is not that he wants to have them for himself, he simply wants to take them away from the other. The good of others irritates him. It is the quality, not so much of the jealous, but rather in those who are bitter. He is not happy with what he has because his flesh harasses him with envy. Do not look at what others have, you will become confused and you will not be able to be a good administrator of what God has given you out of love.

19. DRUNKENNESS turns men into beasts and they do not reason.

20. HOMICIDES. He who envies becomes a murderer, he does not love the other, he slanders him, he speaks badly about the person and he has the person in his mind all the time because he would like and would be glad to see him fall.

21. THE BAD COMPANY are sprees of madness. The worst dissolution is made (they separate what was united). They were friends, but friendship will be destroyed.

22. All these things are done by your flesh if you do not start living in the Spirit.

23. Think about what you will do with your flesh. Decide to always live with the Holy Spirit upon you and it will bring you the good.

24. For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit: and these oppose (to face, confront) each other, so that you do not do what you want (Vs. 17).

25. Your war is not with me, nor with the Word, the war of your flesh is against the Holy Spirit. So, become a friend of the Spirit and do not satisfy the desires of your flesh. Amen.
