God is who fights for us

BIBLE STUDY # 835 - CHURCH IN THE HOUSES NOVEMBER 4 - 10, 2014

TOPIC: "God is who fights for us" Joshua 23: 10-11 "One of you routs a thousand, because the Lord your GOD FIGHTS FOR YOU, just as he promised. So be very careful to love the Lord your God.” God is always our God of promises. To his people he offered a land, it would be Canaan, the same that we all call the Promised Land. Abraham had upon his life the promise of that land. That nation of Israel arose and was led by Moses to the promised land of Canaan. God had also promised to give them peace. I Kings 8:56 "Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses." The Lord gave them peace just as He had promised, Salomon had also understood this. When the Israelites were faithful to the Lord He gave them what He promised them. No word that God has given will be left unfulfilled, unless people break off with God and walk as they please. Abraham is known as the father of FAITH. (Romans 4: 20-21 "Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, BUT WAS STRENGHTHENED IN HIS FAITH, and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised ...") For his FAITH Abraham was also placed as the father of nations. The existence of FAITH was expressed with Abraham. Even to him, that word was unknown. Then, FAITH came to light in someone called Abraham. He becomes the man who has believed God and through him the word FAITH is used which is “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11: 1) Abraham comes TO BELIEVE what God has promised him. God would comply with that man of FAITH and he would receive what was promised, among other things the land of Canaan, although not immediately. Of course, he walked and moved enough through that beautiful land. Abraham did not doubt God because he knew that God was powerful to do. "He was strengthened in FAITH." His strength was the FAITH that led him to expect such promises. That led him to give glory to God. He was fully, entirely convinced; in him there was no doubt or reservation. God had promised him; He would do it. You have to know how great He is! We can also speak of Moses as another man of faith. Moses knew God. Upon knowing Him he knew who he was. If there is a lack of knowing God then there is a lack of believing Him. The closer we get to God the more we know Him, and it is not strange to us, but rather He is a real God. Then, we know of His power, we believe Him and He keeps His promises for our lives. The first land that the people of Israel had managed to possess was given by God as a pledge or deposit of the complete fulfillment of the promise. Then He would give them the other parts of the country that still needed to be conquered. But, the fulfillment of God's promise would depend on their inviolable "fidelity" to God's law. The law demanded from them, with determination, to keep away and avoid all family or intimate relationship with the Canaanites and to not participate in any way in their idolatrous sins. God knew that they would go after the false gods. When God tells us to escape, it is better to run! Because God knows where each of us can stumble. The only way to obtain blessings and easy and brilliant victories is to be close to God, maintaining a faithful adherence to the cause of God, and happily, that is how the nation of Israel was distinguished in that moment. Joshua had conquered the lands for Israel. God says or better warns him: "Preserve, well, with diligence our souls…” Preserve the soul with diligence. Diligence is the speed, care, dedication and promptness. You have to attend your soul. Your body will rot and therefore look how you attend it! The body is given more time and satisfaction than the soul. Moreover, the large percentages of people do not know they have souls. To some people I say: you have no soul! They have no feelings! The soul is immortal. The soul feels and thinks. With the body the soul constitutes the human essence, there are feelings and emotions that moves in the moral. Preserve and take care of your souls, "... so that you may love the Lord your God." Joshua's exhortation was for the people to love God, which is the end and the fulfillment of the law (Matthew 22:37 "Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind.") That is how Jesus said it! And with this love in our lives WE WILL NOT SIN! Amen.
