Let Us Make Memory of God

Topic: “Let Us Make Memory of God” Isaiah 26:8 May God’s name serve as a continuous memory or reminder for stimulus in our faithful fulfillment of our obligations and for great consolation in the midst of our afflictions. Here in this biblical passage the prophet Isaiah had a mixture of prayer and expression of confidence, that confidence that many times wants to abandon us and if it does, our strength will leave us and we will faint. The prophet, as part of God’s faithful people, expresses his untouchable confidence in Jehovah and his desire for God to keep manifesting himself to them in a benevolent way. That desire intensifies at night, that is to say, in the midst of the afflictions and the perplexity. Name and memorial, that is God’s manifestation as it is experimented by men and reminded from generation to generation. Our duty is to wait for God. Nehemiah 4:14 “After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, Don’t be afraid of them, REMEMBER THE LORD, WHO IS GREAT AND AWESOME, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” It is not to fear in the midst of what we’re seeing. Let us never forget THE NAME OF GOD. When we do not bring to memory everything He has done then comes the lack of faith, the loss of enthusiasm, we lose our strength, our hope and there is continuous complaints in our mouths. It is an exercise so that our memory will be exercised in the powerful name of God. Nehemiah said to the people: “Don’t be afraid of them”. Behave courageously and consider Him with whom you struggle in your favor! Remember the Lord who is great and awesome. We think and we come to believe that our enemies are great and to be feared, but, what are they in comparison to our God, especially when they oppose Him? The Lord is greater above all of them to dominate them and terrible against all of them when He comes to ask for their account. For whom do you struggle? Is it for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes? You should think that you are more than victorious! Romans 8:37 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” You don’t fight for just one thing; it is for much more that you fight! May the name of God be there and the memory of all that God has done in our favor day after day. He never forgets us and we are in His memory since the eternity until the eternity. Let us see as an example the case of Jonah. Jonah 2:7 Jonah was buried in the womb of the whale. It was a giant fish that could eat him, destroy him. Jonah was a good catch for the great fish. But, it was Jehovah who had the fish prepared for Jonah. A fish like that does not obey men, but God handled it with His powerful hand. When Jonah’s soul fainted in him, he remembered Jehovah who had called him and cared for him for years. He reflected and understood that he was a prophet and that God was speaking to him. He had to go through that and become weakened in order to die to himself; then he would die to all his opinions and his way of seeing how things should be done. It was necessary for Jonah to be silenced; then God would be the great in the midst of that great fish. And God heard his prayer, that prayer reached His holy temple, it reached Heaven. Jonah had acknowledged God’s hand in the storm, and said: “… I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you…” (Jonah 1:12) Jonah knew he owed himself to God. Even when Jonah was wrongdoing in his great disobedience, God was not going to abandon him. Jonah knew

he was in a place he or anyone could ever think would be with conscience. For Jonah it was a certain death, but there God conserved his life. That’s how it is when God chooses, one cannot forget God and His power; we cannot lose memory that we are His children since the eternity. Jonah sang inside the fish because he knew God would follow him wherever he would go; this is how he trusted God. He did not forget God’s name and he succeeded! Glorify Him, sanctify Him; arrive at His throne! Don’t lock yourself inside the fish without doing anything, MAKE MEMORY OF HIS NAME! Amen.
