TOPIC: "I Will Not Sell My First Born Rights For A Meal" Hebrew 12:15-17 If we do not guard our spiritual life with the Lord and we allow the flesh to overcome us, the old man that was in us, then we will be destroyed. We have to learn to take good care of ourselves. Let us open our eyes and our understanding. Sometimes we see things that appear to be simple and inoffensive and we become careless. We have to be quick to do what God asks of us, to watch out for our own spiritual life, to love. We have to take care of the simple and small things in the church, because if we do we will also take care of the bigger things. And the greatest thing is what there is of God in us. That is to say, that we depend on God for everything and that He will always support us. We should guard our walk in Christ, this wonderful path of life that we have known and handle it according to what God wants for us. By caring for what God has given us we show how interested we are in God and His call. Ephesians 1: 4 If we are persons that love the best is to express it. For many of us it is hard to bring out what is inside of us, but it is something that we need to learn to express because when we do, at the same time, we begin a manifestation of love towards God. Fear takes away our expression of worship to God. We have to allow our siblings to feel how much we love them. 1 John 4: 20 We all show what our interest is in this world when we express it, we all talk about our interests and people can see that. God also begins to hear us and He will be pleased with our expressions of love towards our siblings. What we are to live in the eternity we have already begun to live it here. When we lose in this life it is because we are no longer reaching God’s grace which is what happened to Esau, the brother of Jacob. Hebrew 12: 15, 16 We stop achieving when we keep a root of bitterness because of anger against others, because of hatred. When there is hatred from one person towards another they cannot be together, the grace is lost and that anger and resentment sprouts from the mouth and reaches the ears of the other. From the abundance of the heart speaks the mouth. Luke 6: 45 Paul’s letter to the Colossians 4: 6, says: "Be your word always with grace, seasoned with salt, so that they know how they should respond to each one." From Christ we receive the life; He gives abundant life for free, by grace. And if bitterness comes from our heart, with all that we have received from Christ, we risk losing everything which is what happened to Esau. It is bad to have roots of bitterness against someone, because others will be contaminated. Let us learn to forgive so that God may deliver us and so that there will be no bitterness to not keep God’s grace from us. Let us learn to not lose the grace and not contaminate anyone, to avoid that others lose the eternal life because of us and that we receive greater punishment. Let us learn to love and to forgive. Esau underestimated himself; he did not value what he was. If we do not value what we have and what we are, we are going to have a great problem. We have to know that what God has given us is to valorize and guard; God is going to reward us in the eternity according to what we did with what He gave us. If we do not value what we first received, then we are going to sell it; we will sell our first born rights as Esau did. In the ancient times the first born rights gave the right to whoever had it to become the first heir, the one to receive the greater portion of everything; this was based on the law of God for the Jewish people. Nevertheless, Esau rejected what God had given him, his first born rights. How valuable what God has placed in our hands; gifts, ministries, what Jesus did with our lives, to cleanse us with His blood! We have to care for all this as good administrators valorizing what is divine. Let us learn what is first in our lives. If you do, you will get where you have to go. Beloved, how important should be for our lives everything that is divine, that we have received from God. Like Esau, if we do not take advantage of the first born rights that God has given us, time will pass by, we lose and there is no gain. To not take advantage of what is received from God, to underestimate it, will result in a wink of an eye to be discarded. Esau makes a quick worldly decision, it was not a decision that took God into consideration; for that reason he was discarded and did not get an opportunity to repent. God has done in our lives and has given us "our first born rights", our promises and blessings before the foundation of this world. Sometimes there are things that we do wrong and our conscience remorse us, but there is not necessarily repentance and as the years go by we do the same thing again. We have to give true value to what is spiritual; when we do we will fight so we will never lose it again. The spiritual matters should be first in our lives. Everything that is failure is feared, that is why some people escape, to not face the struggles. Remorse does not count before God, but repentance, which is the only thing that pleases God. Let us learn to repent from the heart. The grace has a number of blessings, everything that is ours by means of the redeeming work of the death of Christ. We approach the Church, to the mount of the living God to seek forgiveness of sins, etc. Sometime we think that we simply go to church, but we have approached the mount of the living God, that is why we have to guard our lives and our first born rights. Let us learn that we touch the mount where the living God is. Moses was the mediator of the law and Jesus is the mediator of our salvation through His blood. The blood of Jesus does not cease; it is always upon us. When God speaks to us we must never reject Him. To ignore the voice of God is to reject what God speaks. Hebrew 12: 25 If what God speaks upsets us, let us humble ourselves and believe Him. When God is speaking to us let us not underestimate His voice because then we will perish. There is a greater privilege than Mount Sinai, then, there is a greater responsibility. Our responsibility is greater; let us not be confused, the power comes from God. We should work for what is unshakable, our search, our worship, and that will never be lost. Then, why pay attention to everything that will one day be burned? I will not lose my first born rights, I will love it and I will guard it with all my strength. Amen.
