BIBLE STUDY #625 – CHURCH IN THE HOUSES SEMANA FEBRUARY 16 @ 22 2010

Topic: “I Will Provoke Sadness Upon My Own By Repremending Them SoThey Would Not Be Lost” 1 Kings 1:1-7 David had not yet grown old when he was in war with his son Absalom. He experienced treason from son to father with his son Absalom. He was also in war with one of his other sons named Adonijah. This happened when he was older and had no strength. Regretfully, David never provoked the sadness needed in his children by means of reprimands and correction. It was easier to ignore the wrong doing in them. We must be careful not to do as he did with his own. Whatever we let go is what will always bring us problems, even if we pretend before others that everything is alright. It is proper that what we let get by, almost always it is because we still have strength to struggle later. If we are not capable to sadden those who are behaving badly, with our silence we are digging their tomb. Adonijah was full of arrogance and saw his father as an old man who was washed up. To be faithful is a principle of God. The person who is faithful responds with pain because of the sorrow of the one he loves and will never become unfaithful. Fidelity is a principle of God and those who are faithful are faithful in everything. David had the principle of being faithful. He knew what it was like to be annointed and separated for God. Those who are faithful are faithful even though they are dying. It is easy for the unfaithful to forget everything that has happened and everything that brings one together. The problem is that many live for their ambitions and that destroys everything in their lives. Adonijah forgot that he had to be faithful to God. God is the one who places each one where they belong, He unites us and that is the only way that we can conquer. 1 Kings 2:35 Those who joined Adonijah in rebbelion against David were eliminated. Abiathar was one of them and was no longer the high priest and Zadok was named in his place. Abiathar liked to be unfaithful. We should all know that we owe fidelity to the God we serve. Everything passes , but not God, He remains. David was loved by God and was given all the authority in the kingdom of Israel. David, who was growing old and without strength, was facing a son who was powerful and assumed an authority that was not given to him. No one with rebellion in his life can be called to the Kingdom of God. 1 Chronicles 22:9-10 The throne belonged to Salomon according to the Word given by God. It was not for Adonijah, it was already clear what God had established. What confuses many is their vanity. The town and the nation recognized David as a prophet in addition to being the King. God was always going to reveal himself to his servant. God himself is going to take care of what He has established. David understood that it was Salomon who was going to do God’s work after him. Adonijah made sacrifices that appeared to be for God, but it was for himself and his vanity. The problem is when no one dares to sadden others while acting against what is established by God. We have to point out what it is wrong. Adonijah planned everything very well; his mind was indulged because David had indulged him. If we do the same were condemning them. First we teach our children humbleness. A mind that is spoiled becomes rebellious and goes against everything. Deuteronomy 5:16 This is a great promise that cannot be obtained by a son who is spoiled but rather those who honor their father and mother. This great commandment comes from Jehovah, let us not underestimate it. We should never lose respect. David never admonished Absalom in all his days, even while watching him growing in evilness. It is better to go on annoyed and in a complete battle, admonishing our own so they will reflect, than to leave them entangled in their own evilness and rebellions. What we don’t correct by admonishing those we love, we allow it to become empowered. Let us not be like David who never admonished his son, Adonijah, and for that reason from a spoiled child he turned into an ambitious and capricious man. When a person is like this, he or she pretends to go over everyone else. In many occasions the Father has to sadden us thru the Holy Spirit. It is better for us to fall in shame and be delivered from evil. We are corageous if we examine ourselves knowing that we can obtain much more. It is better to go before God in humilliation to obtain eternal life. Be careful not to live in a false appearance for not annoying others. If we do and remain quiet, at the end there will be ruin and destruction for not struggling and obstructing what is wrong. A good deed cannot be accomplished by pretending to be happy with everyone. When there is no character or strength or no convictions to fight for, then there will be defeat because of the arrogance and afflictions will come. Let us reprimand and sadden when it is necessary. When we admonish someone we love, we do it so this person will not have rebellion in his life.

What we don’t correct on time will be our shame and agony tomorrow. Adonijah campaigned for his respect. He was ready to destroy his own father. If the son has been admonished then the failure is his or hers, the benefit of the reprimand is lost. This is a benefit and nothing bad. The reprimand reaches the depths of the heart, where only God can extend His hand and take out the evilness and bring well-being. If there is a fault in the child, it will reflect on the parent if not admonished when necessary. David would pay a high price of his indulgence for not admonishing his son. In David there was a disordered evilness, an over indulged affect that kept him from admonishing his child when he did evilness. Even though the child threatens and says everything he wants, he has to be corrected for his own good. There are some who become abbusive challenging all authorities because they have never been admonished by there elders. Adonijah knew that David and Jehovah’s designation for the kingdom was Salomon. A child that we don’t admonish today, at our old age we will be the mockery. The love of a son towards the parent is of great weight. In the old age the son will honor the parent. The rebellious who joined Adonijah, Joab and Abiathar received there lash. They received the pay for there evilness, before that they were David’s companions. Abiathar was the High Preist, the one who carried the Arch. But, how much evilness there was in him! We will be far from God if we become arrogant; let us be humble. It is best to admonish those we love than to lose them. Amen.
