Just As He Was For David, God Is My Only Refuge

TOPIC: “Just As He Was For David, God Is My Only Refuge” Psalms 31:1-16 David had a son named Absalom who was possessed by evilness and who no longer had good will, but rather he turned into an evil monster instead of a good son. He believed he was more capable than his father and underestimated his father’s kingdom, justice and courage. He became a powerful man; his life was one of treason and infidelity towards David, his father. Absalom was incapable of having a sense of righteousness since the devil had possessed him. All his thoughts were distorted and his hands lead him uncontrollably towards death and destruction. David’s heart, though he was a courageous man who had fought more than anyone for Israel, who lived in justice and had a great organized army and nations who bowed before him, now had lost his braveness, his character, his determination. He was looking small before all those evil thoughts of his son who turned against him. This was something terrible in David’s life, the chosen King of Israel. Absalom, who was taken by evilness, drove the man who was chosen by God to appear to be insignificant and coerced him to run. Absalom made his kingdom of evilness look greater than the kingdom David had already raised. David turned weak and began to run away from his own son. But, throughout his life of grieve David took complete refuge in God, who is our sustenance and in whom we must put our strength. God has taken our lives and it is only in Him where we can find refuge. When we are afflicted confusion will come, sorrow dismantles us and this comes to possess and reign in our lives. Then this will make our walk insecure and will not allow us to walk in the path of the truth. Then everything we speak and think is surrounded by confusion and then deceit. But, Jehovah does not forget that we have believed in Him and He will deliver us in His justice. He demands faith from us. If Jehovah does not listen to us, what are we going to do?, because with our own capacity we cannot succeed. We cannot live without Jehovah’s strength. Men live struggling to obtain and possess, but life goes by too quick. We must speak to God with our hearts, with simplicity. We cannot impress God with big words, because the living God will only be convinced by our sincerity. When we pray in the spirit our prayer is simple, because He is very sensitive. We speak to God and we convince Him. It is not possible for God to allow His honor to be blemished. That would imply that those who trust Him would be put in shame. If our trust was placed on a mortal from this world, our salvation would be uncertain. God is the only powerful one. We implore in the Lord’s name because our refuge, rest, and confidence is in Him, because life is like a thread than can be cut off easily. Sometimes we choose to become unfaithful, worldly, to love God only at our own convenience. Even though we are in the hunters net, because we are His creatures, the Almighty God will impede all the inconveniences that may appear in our lives. God is not caught in a net like the ones that hold us back. We should surrender our spirit completely to the Lord now, as if today was the day in which we departed with Him. We must not live our daily lives in illusory vanity, dreaming for tomorrow, when today is the day for God. It is sad when we only love the vanity of this world, when everything is transitory. We are always focusing in what is vanity; let us focus in another direction. The men in this world live based on an illusion and turn their riches into gods, but the faith in Jesus is a refuge for the righteous. Our faith must be in God and not in what we possess. Sometimes we think that our solution would be to trust our vanities, but this is wrong. Our soul must trust and rest in the one who has called us. Trust in Jehovah is for the righteous. Everything shall pass. David said: “I will rejoice and be glad in your mercy.” We will have much to gain only in His mercy. Let us always gain with God. He has given us His Son so that we will remain and obtain victory and His salvation. Amen.
