"The Dimension Of The Greatness Of God" – Psalm 19:1 Since ancient times, when man looked up at a sky full of stars, the question arose: how great is God? Creation is not only beautiful; it reveals the greatness of the Creator. With images of the universe and the texts of Isaiah 40, Psalm 145, Psalm 8, Luke 12:7, Hebrews 1:3 and Psalm 147, the message teaches that God's greatness is unsearchable, that His understanding no one can reach, that He upholds all that exists and yet counts the hairs of our head: He is at once infinite, personal and near. Knowing that dimension produces humility, the fear of God and trust.
I. Seeking God in the dimension of His greatness.
A. That search is not natural to the mortal.
1. Whoever is converted and finds God, it is because the Holy Spirit does the work.
2. Human nature clings to what it thinks and opines; that is why prayer must come with humility.
3. When the life of Christ is mixed with the flesh, Jesus does not reveal Himself as He is.
B. Life is no joke: here, in Scripture, are the high writings.
1. In our hands lies eternity or condemnation; each one sows and reaps.
2. I am responsible for my life, and you are responsible for yours.
II. How great is God? (Psalm 19:1).
A. It is a mystery learned as one seeks, because God keeps teaching who He is.
1. We are small: matter that dies; for the soul and spirit one fights while there is life.
2. The church is the last place where anyone should boast.
B. Creation is not only beautiful: it reveals the greatness of the Creator.
1. Nature cries out that it cannot exist by itself; the flowers say: look at me.
2. The heavens declare the glory of God, yet few stop one night to observe them.
3. When God's power is noticed, one begins to love the wisdom of heaven and to use the mouth to glorify Him.
III. There is no searching of His understanding (Isaiah 40:28).
A. If you settle into God's understanding, you will have God's wisdom.
1. Each one brings his own understanding, and none keeps step with another.
2. Each one must reach the depth of who God is for his own life.
B. Since it cannot be reached, what the mortal body is trained in is prayer.
1. We need God to reveal Himself according to each one's capacity.
2. If the Word amazed you, you would be another person: another face, another smile, a pure gaze.
IV. Great is the LORD, and His greatness is unsearchable (Psalm 145:3).
A. Greatly to be praised: lifting up holy hands.
1. Unsearchable: it cannot be measured or fully explored.
2. Father, Son and Holy Spirit: one comes to God through the blood of the Son, and the Spirit guides us.
B. God is not limited by time, space, matter or the universe.
1. We are limited by everything; we serve a God without limitation.
2. In the end we know no one; let us stop boasting and know God as He is.
3. One day you received Him, but the flesh absorbed Him because it will not surrender.
V. The universe is immense (Isaiah 40:26, 15).
A. Hundreds of billions of galaxies, each with hundreds of billions of stars.
1. God brings out their host by number and calls them all by name; we stumble over our own children's names.
2. In that greatness, remember that God thought of you.
3. Recognize how limited we are: a creature still not finished being put together.
B. The earth is scarcely a dot beside the sun, and the sun is only an average star.
1. The universe is no accident: it is God's work, and He chose the earth for us to exist on.
2. The nations are as a drop of a bucket; He takes up the isles as a very little thing.
3. Light takes 100,000 years to cross the galaxy; the observable universe spans 93 billion light-years.
C. Knowing that dimension is for our faith.
1. If God reveals Himself in His Word, it is because He cares for us and wants us to know His dimension.
2. Without that knowledge tomorrow's problem grows; let us be brave and stop living as children.
3. Parents must teach their children to love God and to fight; we live on realities, not fantasies.
VI. As the heavens are higher than the earth (Isaiah 55:9).
A. We will never have God's thoughts; that is why we must pray.
1. Be meek with yourself; you must watch over yourself.
VII. What is man? (Psalm 8:4).
A. When man contemplates creation, humility arises.
1. David understood it because he spent long seasons in communion with God.
2. The universe is immense, yet God knows man down to his sigh and his thought.
3. Mortals can be told stories; God cannot.
B. God's greatness is also seen in His care for the earth.
VIII. Even the hairs of your head are numbered (Luke 12:7).
A. We are of great value to God.
1. God is not only powerful: He is also personal and near; He never works from a distance.
2. This church is a school: it is time to live in the dimension of God's greatness, not to be children.
IX. God upholds all that exists (Job 38:31; Hebrews 1:3).
A. He not only created the universe: He upholds it by the word of His power.
1. He rules the sea and tells it how far to come; He binds the Pleiades and the bands of Orion.
2. Every star, galaxy and planet exists because God permits it.
3. The Bible invites us to look at the sky in order to reflect, not out of curiosity.
B. The fear of God must grow in us.
1. Angels record our lives, and on the last day the books will be opened and each one called by name.
2. To love oneself is to care for the soul and spirit, not merely to satisfy the flesh.
3. The rapture, the marriage of the Lamb, the millennium: Revelation says it plainly; learn it and read it.
X. He telleth the number of the stars (Psalm 147:4; Psalm 8:9).
A. He calls them all by their names; if He knows every star, He knows our lives.
1. God is greater than all creation, and the universe reveals His power and wisdom.
2. Man is small but precious to God; God governs all that exists.
3. Therefore creation invites us to trust in Him.
B. “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!”
1. Let these be our words, instead of lamenting and boasting.
2. Each one's life is his own: the soul is carried to hell or carried to God; escape for your life.
