"We Will Have To Give An Account" – Romans 14:12 “So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.” Not of the neighbor, not of the husband, not of the child: of oneself. And it is not only about great visible sins, but also about our words, the intentions of the heart, the time we were given and the gifts God entrusted to us. The study walks through Romans 14:12 and personal responsibility before God; 2 Corinthians 5:10 and the judgment seat of Christ, which for the believer is not for condemnation but for evaluation and reward; Galatians 6:5, where each one bears his own load and faith demands daily constancy; Matthew 12:36 on the careless word; Hebrews 4:13, where nothing is hidden; and 1 Peter 4:5, which reaches the living and the dead. God takes no word lightly, because each one reflects what is in the heart.
I. Each one will give an account of himself (Romans 14:12).
A. Not of the neighbor, not of the husband, not of the child: of oneself.
1. We will all give an account; no one is left out.
2. If we repent here, it will not be for condemnation.
3. We will answer for what was placed in our hands and we did not dare to do.
B. We are all subject to human nature from childhood.
II. Not only the great sins.
A. Also our words and the intentions of the heart.
1. The problem is not speaking: it is how God weighs what we speak.
2. The earth is full of angels who write.
3. Some compliments are words with intent, and they leave the hearer wounded.
B. The intent does not enter the understanding so you can reason: it enters the soul, and the soul is grieved.
C. Whoever hates, kills; not necessarily physically, but by what comes out of the mouth.
1. We live constantly demanding our rights.
2. We have a heart, and from it the intentions spring.
III. The gifts and the time we were given.
A. God gives gifts from birth: how did we respond to what God gave us?
1. Where the truth is not acknowledged, conflict, idleness and sloth begin.
2. One must mind his own life, not another's.
B. The day we were converted we began to recognize the truth that set us free.
1. We are not meant to live in torment, but it is time to wake up.
IV. A personal responsibility.
A. We must be meek: meek is not foolish, nor is it lack of knowledge.
1. It is natural for man to be haughty, and haughtiness falls back on us.
B. God knows our intentions, and the intentions are our danger.
1. Rarely is an intention to do good: it usually comes wrapped in payback and strife.
C. There is no family standing there: no one can defend you or excuse you in another.
1. Each life has a book, and in it everything is written.
2. Nothing around us can affect our love for God.
3. It is before God, not before people nor according to human opinions.
D. It includes decisions, attitudes and how we lived by faith.
1. From the mouth of one who lives by faith, complaint and lament disappear.
2. God calls us to live with reverence and spiritual care.
V. The judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10).
A. We will give an account to Christ, who went to the cross and shed His blood.
1. Not to lose salvation, but to render account of how we lived the faith we received.
B. “It is necessary”: it is not optional nor symbolic.
1. “All of us”: no one is excluded.
2. “That each one may receive”: the evaluation is personal, not collective.
C. It will be reward, or loss of reward.
1. What was left undone is written, and that reward will no longer be yours.
2. Salvation is not judged, but the quality of the Christian life.
3. The pastor too will be asked to give an account for the church.
VI. Each one will bear his own load (Galatians 6:5).
A. You are responsible for your own burdens; do not unload them on everyone.
1. Prayer is what is powerful in your life, not telling it to the pastor.
2. The absence of miracles and of power is the absence of prayer.
B. Faith is not inherited nor delegated, and it demands constancy.
1. It is not occasional: it is a daily responsibility.
2. The load is personal, but His grace is new every morning.
3. For this Christ died: to equip us through the Holy Spirit.
VII. For every careless word (Matthew 12:36).
A. “Every word”: even those that seem unimportant reveal what is in the heart.
B. “Careless”: spoken without thinking, without love, without truth or spiritual purpose.
1. Do not let words out of your mouth if you do not love.
C. Our words can build up or wound.
1. The sword is dangerous when it comes out, not when it goes in.
2. Before speaking let us ask: does this build up? does it honor God?
3. God desires a mouth that blesses, that heals and that glorifies His name.
VIII. Nothing is hidden (Hebrews 4:13).
A. All things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
1. We will answer for our words, our attitudes and the tone we carry them in.
2. God will judge with perfect justice and nothing stays hidden.
IX. The living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5).
A. No one will escape responsibility before God, whether they believe or not.
1. His judgment is neither improvised nor unjust.
2. Not even death frees anyone from appearing.
B. The believer does not live for revenge nor to justify himself before men.
1. He lives faithfully before God, trusting in His justice.
2. Where passion once was, a smoldering wick remains: no flame, no fire, no surrender.
