The Mortal is frail

"The Mortal is frail" – Isaiah 2:22 There is nothing in man that can serve as a "support" (to maintain or support = something resting on something else) and refuge in the day of God's great judgment! "Be unaware (cease, forsake) of man," says God through the prophet! How weak man is! His "breath" (air that comes out of the mouth) that makes him a living soul, is in his nose. Man is a frail being, whose soul is but a breath that Jehovah "sends" or "withdraws." Positively, man's life is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11); negatively, in the nose, in the sense that, cutting off man's breath, he dies in a couple of minutes.

I. People seek refuge wherever they can hide.

A. It will then be clear that the person who flees is not trustworthy.

1. The Lord alone is worthy of the complete, undivided trust of His people.

2. (1 Samuel 20:3) It was a great blessing for David to have such a friend at court, when he had such an enemy on the throne.

3. If there are those who hate and despise us, let us not lose heart for it, for there will also be those who love and respect us.

4. What have I done?

5. Try to convince him that, despite his innocence, Saúl is trying to kill him.

6. Jonathan, as befits a good son, "seeks to cover his father's shame as far as possible" without betraying loyalty to David, nor the values of justice and truth.

7. At this, David assures him with an oath "of the danger to which his life is". And verily, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, for there is scarcely a step between me and death."

8. (Psalm 49:12) But man will not abide in his opulence, honor, reputation, "glory," admiration.

9. He is but a guest or tenant for an hour, not even a whole night; although he lives in marble rooms, he is given news of leaving.

10. Eminence (excellence, superiority) is always an imminence of danger.

11. The hero of the moment lasts this: a moment.

12. The scepters fall from the paralyzed hands that once held them vigorously, and the crowns slip from the skulls when life bids farewell. C.H.S.

13. The rabbis read it thus: "Adam, being honest, lodged for less than one night."

14. And it seems that Adam was not a single night lodged in Paradise. (Tom Watson).

15. He is like beasts that perish.

16. It is not like the sheep that are preserved by the Great Shepherd but like the hunted animal doomed to die.

17. (Psalm 103:14) For He knows our condition.

18. Not as an inexperienced doctor who only has a prescription for the strong and weak, young and old, but as an expert who considers the patient and writes his prescription.

19. Balaam longed for what Balak promised, but he couldn't go a hair beyond what God allowed him to do.

20. Such is our life: a whirlwind, a flow maintained by external forces, which ceases when they are withdrawn.

21. Jehovah looks upon us with mercy in our weakness, "it is not of sin," it is our frail body of flesh and blood.

22. He knows that we are "dust", such is our condition, we are fragile and powerless.

23. We forget that we are dust.

24. This carelessness of ours leads us to pride, self-confidence that you have (that you will not fall or that no one knows), independence and nervous breakdowns.

25. (Isaiah 64:6) Beware of manners (style, acting): "We are all as filth," like those who are full of leprosy and are to be driven out of the camp, to all our righteousness, that is, the works that we consider to be good enough, are like filthy rags.

26. (7) True prayer is abandoned: "There is no one who calls on Your name, no one who seeks Your grace to reform us (change for the better, reform) or Your mercy to relieve us and "turn away the punishments that our sins have brought upon us."

27. Isaiah40:6-8

28. (Psalm 38:4) Secret tears for secret sins are a fine sign of a holy heart and a healing balm for broken spirits.

29. (Psalm 78:39) He spared them their lives until another generation arose to enter the Promised Land.

30. Although they did not remember correctly that God was their rock, God remembered that they were flesh, that is, mortal and inclined to sin and error.

31. How easily He could crush them, as they were "a breath that goes away and does not return."

32. They deserved to die, but God is, above all, a compassionate God and did not want to destroy them. Amen
