When Sin Remains

"When Sin Remains" – Psalm 119:133 A sin is a voluntary transgression (breaking, non-compliance, disobedience, abuse, attack, crime) of religious precepts (commandment, order, command). The violation of moral norms (rules of conduct to regulate human conduct) (actions, custom, habitual way of acting, a habit, custom). Sin is man's departure from God's will. When people violate some of God's commandments, they commit a sin. It is to confess to correct (repair, correct) this evil through forgiveness and confession.

I. The Scriptures are the picture of God's will.

A. (133) "Strengthen, order my steps with Your Word.

1. Command or guide.

2. The idea does not change: since God has set you on the right path with His Word, he asks Him to continue to guide him, with His Word and with His grace, along the same path.

3. In this way, no iniquity (wickedness, evilness, vileness) that is, no infraction (noncompliance, misdemeanor, crime) of the law will lord it over; or will prevail (dominate, endure, abide) over him with the flattery of temptation.

4. What hurts him most, as he has already said, "is the violation of the divine law" by the wicked.

5. (Proverbs 10:9) Integrity is a guarantee of security.

6. In an upright life there is "trust" and "security”, but life built on deception will be discovered and exposed.

7. The one who perverts his path will be discovered because sooner or later others will realize that his ways were crooked, because one day, misfortune will befall him.

8. The man of integrity enjoys God's blessing and can walk through life with humble boldness (daring, resolute, determined, courageous) well-armed against the temptations of Satan, the tribulations of the world, and the reproaches of men.

9. A person's dishonesty will result in his own infamy (dishonor, vileness, baseness); he will be discovered broken (hurt, distressed, defiant).

10. (Proverbs 28:13) There is no blessing for the one who covers up his sins, that is, one who refuses to bring them to light and confess them before God and anyone else he has offended.

11. The one who "confesses and turns away" from his sins has the assurance that God forgives and if He forgives "God forgets".

12. It is useless to deny or excuse sin, blaming others; his own conscience will accuse him.

13. As long as the patient hides his illness, he cannot expect a remedy.

14. (1 John 1:9) God forgives only the one who confesses his sins and forsakes them, for an unrepentant confession, without a firm purpose of amendment, is tantamount to hypocrisy (pretense of good feelings) or to self-deception.

15. (Romans 6:15) Those who are afraid of grace insist that it gives license to sin.

16. Paul confronts this error head-on (direct) by asking the question and then watering it sharply.

17. We are free from the law, but not without law.

18. Grace means freedom to serve the Lord, not to sin against Him.

19. (Romans 6:1) Will we remain in sin?

20. Here the question is: will we sin only a little?

21. The answer is in both cases horrified, not at all!

22. God cannot tolerate sin at all.

23. (Luke 6:43-45) The fourth illustration the Lord uses is that of the tree and its fruit.

24. A tree will bear fruit, good or bad, depending on what it is in itself.

25. We judge a tree by the kind and quality of the fruit it bears.

26. And so, it is in the area of discipleship.

27. A morally pure and spiritually sound man can give blessing to others from the "good treasure of his heart."

28. On the other hand, a basically (mostly) impure man only brings out the bad.

29. The Lord shows the disciples that their ministry must be a ministry of character (their way of being and acting, of others, they think, feel, and behave).

30. What (you) are is more important than what you will ever say or do.

31. The result of their service will be determined by who they are themselves.

32. (James 4:17) Sin is therefore in the one who knows how to do good and does not do it.

33. To "do good" is to include God in every aspect of our lives, to live every moment in dependence on Him.

34. If we know we should do this and we don't, we were evidently sinning.

35. In all areas of life, the opportunity to "do good" holds us accountable to do so.

36. If we know what is good, we are obligated to live in this light.

37. To fail to "do good" is a sin against God, against our neighbor, and against ourselves.

38. (Psalm 1:1) The truly "blessed" man (holy, blessed, happy, joyful who lives in God and for God) is the one who avoids the lifestyle of the wicked.

39. In his contacts with them, he avoids being their accomplice and does not even give tacit approval (reserved, silent) for their sin and derision (mockery).

40. He testifies to them about "sin, righteousness, coming judgment, and seeks to present Christ."

41. The happy man is a true friend to the wicked, but he is not their companion. Amen
