The All of Man: Commandments

"The All of Man: Commandments" - Deuteronomy 10:12-13 Jehovah's desire for His people is summed up in these words: "Fear, walk, love, serve, keep all the commandments of God," which were designed for your prosperity in your life. These are our duties to God. We should fear Jehovah as our God, fear Him as a great God and Lord, and love Him as a good God and Father.

I. We are or we are not.

A. We may like the gospel and perhaps not know what God requires.

1. This message is for one who is a servant of the Lord, to be able to carry in his life: "You fear, walk, serve, and keep all the commandments" and your soul grows in purity to be with God. (Joshua 24:14) "The Lord works according to His eternal purposes, and who can stop His hand?

2. Such a God is to be feared and obeyed.

3. The remembrance of all the rewards God had bestowed upon them in the past was intended (purpose, end) to exhort them to fear and serve God in gratitude for such favors and to continue to be faithful to the Lord.

4. It seems that some of them secretly kept in their dwellings the images or idols which their fathers had worshipped in Mesopotamia and Egypt, as protective amulets of the families, although it is probable that they did not worship them now.

5. Yet, in the face of the danger of idolatry, Joshua sternly urges them to remove them from their midst.

6. (Ecclesiastes 12:13) Solomon understands what the vanity of life is and concludes and has risen above the sun.

7. He says, "Fear God and keep His commandments," because this is every obligation of man, the whole of man.

8. And the "commandments".

9. It can refer to every commandment that God has instinctively (innate, automatic) written in human hearts.

10. This is the conclusion of a wise man because of his intuition (foreboding) in human hearts.

11. The just speak what is necessary and what is true; wherefore, because of the prudence of his lips, it is finally indicated, for the truth finally breaks through, and God also comes to his aid.

12. (Isaiah 8:13) He was to instigate (provoke) them to have a holy fear: "To the Lord of hosts (armies), He is the One you must sanctify, that is, to Him you must give the glory of being your only Savior," without fear of anyone else.

13. Reverent fear of God is the best preservative against disturbing fear of men.

14. "He will be a sanctuary to all who lean on Him, but stone to stumble over all others."

15. (Matthew 10:28) The disciples were not to fear the murderous fury of man.

16. The worst thing men can do is kill the body.

17. Physical death is not the supreme tragedy for the Christian.

18. To die is to be with Christ and it is therefore much better.

19. It is deliverance from sin, pain, sickness, suffering, and death; it is the transfer to eternal glory.

20. The disciples should not fear men but should have a reverent fear of the One who can destroy soul and body in hell.

21. This is the greatest loss, the eternal separation from God, from Christ, and from all hope.

22. Spiritual death is that loss that cannot be measured and the fate that must be avoided at all costs.

23. Jesus' words in verse 28 are evoked in the memoirs of Saint John Knox, whose epitaph reads: "Here lies one who feared God so much that he was never afraid of any man."

24. (1 Peter 1:17) We are exhorted not only to holiness, but also to a reverent (devout, respectful) mind.

25. This means a respectful fear, a deep appreciation of who God is.

26. It means especially to be aware that the One to whom we turn as Father is the Same One who judges His children impartially (not to have favoritism), according to the work done by each one.

27. Realizing the extent of His knowledge and the accuracy of His judgment, we should live with a pleasant holy fear.

28. Lincoln writes, "He is watching, taking everything into account, whether there is integrity of purpose, intelligence of mind, and desire of heart to please Him."

29. We must spend the time of our pilgrimage on earth in fear.

30. Christians are not comfortable in this world.

31. We are living in a strange country, exiled from heaven.

32. We should not settle (calm down, place, locate) here as if this were our permanent abode.

33. Nor should we imitate the conduct of those who dwell on the earth.

34. We should always remember our heavenly destiny and conduct ourselves as citizens of heaven. Amen
