The Righteous Will be Remembered Forever

"The Righteous Will be Remembered Forever" - Psalm 112:1-6 In his commandments he delights, he rejoices greatly. The man who fears Jehovah and practices wisdom. "Hail the Lord." These words often express the psalmist's feelings and what a good example he has set for the rest of us! Who is the blessed or contented man? It is one that reverences (devotion-love, fervor, submission, respect, attention). "And he submits himself to the Lord, who delighted greatly in His commandments, and proves it by obeying them."

I. For the prophet makes a distinction between voluntary and a quick effort to keep the law.

A. Which consists of a merely servile (submissive, servant, slave) and constrained obedience (oppress, oblige).

1. (2) Distinguished Posterity.

2. He will occupy positions of power and prestige; will be honored because of their godly inheritance = (compassionate, devotion to God and religion, and reflected in compassion and love-driven "action").

3. "The pious man can be persecuted," but not abandoned; the curses of men cannot deprive him of God's blessing, for Balaam's words are still true: "He has blessed and I cannot change it."

4. The fear of God and the upright walk is a higher nobility than blood or birth can give. C.H.S.

5. (3) It is generally true that obedience to God's Word saves men from waste and poverty.

6. The results of his justice, that is, of his honesty, diligence, and sobriety, will continue to generations away.

7. If we understand the passage spiritually, it is true.

8. What wealth can be equal to God's love?

9. What wealth can the richness of the contented heart realize?

10. It does not matter whether the roof is made of thatch or the floor of Chinese stone; the heart gladdened by the favor of heaven is "rich in every sense of happiness." C.H.S.

11. (4) Lighting Assured.

12. As long as we are on earth we are subjected to a threefold "darkness," the darkness of error, "the darkness of affliction and the darkness of death."

13. He is gracious, merciful, and just.

14. God visits us, in His Word, with the light of truth, the light of comfort, and the light of life.

15. "When God makes a man righteous, He makes him like Himself."

16. There is no guarantee of immunity from darkness, but there is a promise of light; light shone in the darkness to the upright.

17. In all the dark moments of life, the Lord is God of grace, full of compassion.

18. (5) The good man has mercy and lends.

19. He considers this power to do good to be a dangerous ability unless we use it.

20. Let us remember that it is God who gives wealth and that He expects a return (profit, productivity) from it.

21. Don't live as inhumanly as if Nabal (Abigail) (great flocks in Judah, refuses to help King David) and Judas would have returned to the world. Thomas Jenison.

22. He governs his affairs judiciously.

23. Alas, some who call themselves good men act like...

24. True religion is sanctified common sense (ability to understand or judge reasonably).

25. Attention to the things of heaven does not require the neglect of the earth; on the contrary, he who has learned to do business with God should be well prepared to do business with men.

26. The children of this world are often more prudent in their generation than the children of light, but that alone is no reason why this proverb should remain true. C.H.S.

27. (6) In everlasting remembrance shall be the righteous.

28. The majestic and enduring pyramids of Egypt have not passed down to posterity (future) even the name of the one who was buried in them.

29. And what has been the result, even, of embalming the dead if not to make the mummies have come to be exposed to the whole world as a spectacle for the curious, of misery or horror?

30. But the piety of Abraham, Jacob, David, Samuel, Ezekiel, Josiah, and others is celebrated to this day.

31. Thus, when the pyramids crumble and the seas cease to churn, when the sun, moon, and stars cease to exist, "a righteous man will be remembered forever". John Dunn

32. Generosity: Everything is better for the generous man who does not refuse to lend to others who are truly in need.

33. This man manages his affairs with prudence and justice.

34. His life is built on a stable foundation, and he will be "remembered long after his death". Amen
