Way of Truth

"Way of Truth" - Psalm 139:23-24 (Psalm 119:30) I chose the way of truth. Here we have the work of a soul under mercy. Today we hear a lot from man about the Word, for his benefit, his favor: Not to know God Himself as the Word revealed Him to be taught, because of God.

I. The man of God: he chooses what is God's.

A. Because he has chosen the path of truth.

1. The way of truth is all that God has revealed concerning His Son Jesus.

2. "The willing heart chooses this path and all of it; to a conscientious (painstaking) observance (discipline, submission, respect) of the Lord's will.

3. Their delight will be where God's children are.

4. Oh, if there were more abundance of these among us!

5. The Christian that chooses, is the Christian who persists (perseveres) "while those who are Christians" by chance, "turn the ship when the wind changes." (Matthew Henry).

6. (139:23) Self-examination, or examination of conscience, is not as simple a thing as it may seem at first sight.

7. No Christian who has practiced it has found it easy.

8. Examination of conscience is almost impossible to achieve, whether pure or sincere, impossible.

9. We have no idea of the evil that is in the person.

10. Every Christian counts the cost well before venturing into the daring act of asking God to "search" him.

11. Because you must be sure that if you will truly and sincerely ask God to search you, He will.

12. The hypocrisy by which a man not only deceives the world but often imposes himself; This hypocrisy that hides his own heart from him and makes him believe that he is more virtuous (honest) than he really is.

13. Pure gold is not afraid of the law of scales, nor of fire, nor of proof.

14. The gold that weighs what the evidence should weigh, however it is weighed; What is gold will be gold, no matter how it is tested.

15. (24) "And see if there is any way in me" of wickedness.

16. Just as, "I hate every way of wickedness in the wicked, I would hate it in me." C.H.S.

17. There is the path of unbelief within each of us, which we are "very prone (given) to follow.

18. There is the path of vanity and pride, to which we can often become accustomed.

19. There is the path of selfishness, on which we often walk.

20. There is the path of worldliness, in which we sometimes seek empty pleasures, honors, etc.

21. There is the path of negligence (carelessness).

22. What apathy we manifest in prayer, in the examination and application of God's Word!

23. There is the path of self-dependence by which we do not honor God and harm ourselves.

24. There is, unfortunately, the path of disobedience on which we often walk.

25. "In any case," our obedience is cold, uncertain; "It is not simple, integral, fervent."

26. How necessary, then, it is to go to God at once and sincerely prefer the petition: Lord, see if there is in me a path of perversity and wickedness."

27. Let nothing that is evil, that is contrary to Your character, repugnant to Your Word, or harmful to ourselves, remain or be harbored within us.

28. "And lead me in the way everlasting."

29. (Isaiah 35:8) Way of holiness.

30. The royal road that will be prepared for the "redeemed of Jehovah will be called the Way of Holiness, without which no one will see God." (Hebrews 12:14)

31. It will be a path planned and prepared by God.

32. The way of holiness is the way of the commandments.

33. He will not pass through the unclean (Revelation 21:27).

34. It will be for those whom God has chosen for Himself (Psalms 4:3) for they are to walk there in communion with God; the godly.

35. (Matthew 7:13-14) The Lord now warns that the door of Christian discipleship is "tight" and that the "way" is narrow.

36. But those who faithfully follow His teachings find "life" abundant.

37. There is a wide door, life given away. (dainty)

38. The end of such a life is perdition.

39. The wide gate and spacious "way" lead to perdition.

40. The narrow gate and tight "way" lead to life.

41. Jesus is both the door (John 10:9) and the way (John 14:6).

42. Jesus is saying that following Him will "require faith," discipline, and patience.

43. But this difficult life is the only one worth living.

44. If you choose the easy way, you will have plenty of company, but you will miss out on God's best for you. Hebrews 12:14 Amen
