Character of the Wicked

"Character of the Wicked" – (Psalm 1:4-6) The wicked are contrary to the just; the bad ones are neither well planted, nor fruitful (which bears fruit), nor do they last and prosper. Like the "fluff" (residue of the threshed and winnowed grain, the husk of wheat carried by the wind), they lack body or substance. When the storms of life blow, they are unstable. A strong wind snatches them away (violently removes them).

I. This is their character: worthless, dead, useless, without substance and carried away by the wind. C.H.S.

A. That snatches the wind.

1. Here we see their fate and condemnation: death will snatch them away with its terrible blasts of fire, in which they will be utterly consumed. C.H.S.

2. Here, in passing, we can see that the bad guys have something to give thanks without them knowing (the bad guys); that they can thank the pious (compassionate, kind) for the good days they live on earth, since it is for them (pious) and not for themselves that they enjoy what they enjoy.

3. For as the chaff is united to the wheat and enjoys some privileges because of the wheat and is carefully placed in the barn, but as soon as it is divided and separated from the wheat it is thrown out and scattered by the wind, so are the wicked, as long as they are in the company of the good and in the midst of them.

4. They partake for their sake of some of the blessings promised to the good.

5. If the good abandon them or are separated from them, then it falls on them like a flood of fire, as happened to Sodom when Lot abandoned it and left the city.

6. In general, they are the opposite of the righteous both in character and in condition; they bear no fruit, but the bitterness of Sodom that renders the earth useless.

7. In particular, while the righteous are like useful, valuable, and fruitful trees, the wicked are like the chaff that the wind snatches away, they are like the lightest part of the chaff, the dust that the master of the threshing floor wants to see far away, since it is of no use.

8. (5) It is said that demons come to the church.

9. The tares grow in the same furrows as wheat.

10. There is no threshing floor that has been completely cleansed of chaff.

11. Sinners mingle with the saints and dross with gold.

12. The precious diamonds of God are still found in the same soil as the Chinese stone (small).

13. Sinners cannot live in heaven.

14. The wicked will not rise in judgment.

15. They, of course, will stand before God at the Great White Throne Judgment.

16. But the meaning is that they will not have any proper defense.

17. They will find themselves without support and without argument.

18. Moreover, they will never rise in the congregation of the righteous.

19. They will be eternally excluded from the company of those who are saved by grace "through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ."

20. They will not rejoice, no reasons, no arguments in the judgment, that is, they will be found guilty and will have no place in the congregation of the righteous, for nothing defiled is to enter the New Jerusalem.

21. In this world, it is not a difficult thing for hypocrites, under the mask of an acceptable profession of faith, to enter the congregation of the righteous and remain there undiscovered, but God cannot be deceived, though His ministers may be deceived.

22. (6) Jehovah knows, that is, He gladly approves and rewards (rewards, recompenses, pays) the conduct of the righteous, by making them happy and prosperous, but He is angry with the path of the wicked, which surely leads men to ruin and perdition.

23. What is the reason for all this?

24. Jehovah knows the way of the righteous.

25. He not only notices their lives but also approves of them.

26. What a contrast in this with the end of a life of sin, which ends in eternal death!

27. It is a "new" life in Christ.

28. "The evil man" is one who refuses to acknowledge his need and does not bend his knee to the Lord Jesus.

29. He would rather keep his sin than have the Savior and thus seal his own destiny.

30. The righteous is the one who has confessed his sin and received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

31. His life of righteousness is the result of his new life in Christ.

32. The determining factor is whether he has been born again by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
