A Faithful Christian - Psalm 16:8-11 A faithful Christian, whether he abounds in wealth or poverty, whether his position in the world is high or humble, "must continually have his faith and hopes built (uplifted) and firmly grounded in Christ, and have his heart and mind fixed and established on Him, and press on through thick and thin, by fire and water, in war and peace, in hunger and cold, between friends and enemies, through a thousand dangers and risks, in the face of the cloaked (violent attack) of envy, malice, hatred, slander, threats, insults; contempt of the world, the flesh and the devil and even in death itself, however cruel, bitter and abusive it may be, "never losing sight of Christ, without yielding (surrendering) faith, hope and trust in Him.

I. The charged cloud soon drops rain; The charged mortar soon fires when the fire is applied to it.

A. A soul that meditates is potentially close to prayer.

1. (Genesis 5:24) So Enoch walked with God, and disappeared, because God took him.

2. God took him.

3. Enoch walked "so much" with God, three hundred and sixty-five years, that he "walked like God; He did not "walk like men, which the apostle reproves " (1 Corinthians 3:3). for you are still carnal; for there being jealousy among you, strife, and dissension (quarrelling, dispute) are you not carnal, and walk as men?

4. Enoch walked so little as the world, that he did not remain long in the world.

5. (Psalm 16:9) Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my soul rejoiced.

6. His inner joy was uncontainable. (irresistible)

7. Our soul delights when its faculties (capacity), which are of a more delicate constitution (the principal norm of the order), find things that are in all respects pleasant and delightful to them; and in God, they will find them; with light our understanding will be renewed and our will with His goodness and His love.

8. (Psalm 16:10) You shall not leave my soul in Sheol.

9. When Jesus sweated drops of blood and on the cross, He cried out so sorrowfully: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46).

10. Jesus lived suffering the hellish pains (or its equivalent) (similar) that we deserved to suffer, because of our sins, forever.

11. When He was alive, He suffered everything of our lives; it was a hell of punishment in His body for that pain He lived (Luke 23:44-48).

12. It wasn't when He was dead.

13. Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

14. (Psalm 16:11) "You will show me the path of life."

15. (Acts 2:25-28) Peter in his first sermon on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on all the occupants of the Upper Room, expressly said that here David speaks of Christ and of His resurrection from the dead.

16. On the wings of the spirit of prophecy, the singing king and prophet was taken beyond consideration of his own case to foretell the glory of the Messiah.

17. The New Testament provides us with a key to enter into the mystery of these lines.

18. The verse is to be applied with all certainty to Christ; of Him the prophet king speaks here.

19. David here predicts that Christ would suffer and die.

20. "My flesh shall rest with confidence" according to verse 10. Amen
