Sustained in the Word

"Sustained in the Word" - Psalm 12:3-8 To improve a life and for this reason, all human behavior must improve speech and thought for good and justice. You can't get to welfare when you talk to another if you don't improve two words: flatterers and a boastful tongue.

I. When you are flattered, they are soft, slippery and pleasant.

A. The one who seeks to ingratiate himself (win, conquer) with someone through praise.

1. That person who will please you with whom you talk.

2. He seeks with flattery (praise, adulation), with the intention of obtaining some kind of benefit. (advantage, interest, or recognition).

3. People who are boastful are arrogant, presumptuous people, they love to glorify themselves (make glorious, exalt) when they are not.

4. They love to talk mostly about their own work.

5. It is strange that the easy yoke of the Lord should be so "the shoulders of the proud," so long as the chains of Satan that bind them should seem to him to be of gold.

6. One generally imagines that flatterers are contemptible, crawling and licking parasites and that they cannot be proud; But the wise man will tell you that while all pride is truly petty (stingy, mean), there is a lot of pride in extreme pettiness.

7. When one is boastful (arrogant, conceited) one speaks only about all one's own works.

8. (Psalm 12:4) Everyone who knows oratory and the more they know speak whatever their specialty of their subject may be, against the church.

9. Those who pretend to know speak very passionately against the church.

10. Our lips for us; Who is going to be our master?

11. We have to do with God.

12. We must stop saying that we are ours.

13. Then consider (think) God as our master.

14. (Psalm (12:5) Because of the oppression of the humble.

15. Poverty, need, and misery should be reasons for compassion.

16. The oppressors make of them the sharpening stones of their cruelty and severity.

17. The needy (lacking, needy, lacking much) God will help them from the oppressors; yes, He will plead their cause with pestilence and fire.

18. (Psalm 12:6) Jehovah's words are sincere words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times.

19. The words of man are yes and no, but the promises of the Lord are yes and amen.

20. In the original there is an allusion (reference, quote) to the strictest purifying process known to the ancients, by means of which silver passed to the maximum desired degree of purity; the dross was totally consumed and only the precious and shiny metal remained; so clean and free from every alloy (mixture) of error or unfaithfulness is the book of the Lord's words.

21. The Bible has passed through the furnace of persecution, literary criticism, philosophical doubt, scientific discoveries, and has lost nothing but the human interpretations that cling to it as an alloy to the precious metal.

22. What purifies silver, to achieve it they put it on the fire again and again, until it was completely tested.

23. The doctrine of God's free grace has been tested again and again and a thousand times.

24. They pass a lot of tests and again and again and a thousand times.

25. Pelagius begins and mixes his dross with it, then the papists, Ramonians, semi-pelagius and continue to mix dross; And to this day there is a multitude of scum mixing.

26. God causes His truth to be tested seven times in the fire, until it can be presented pure, as it should be.

27. (Thomas Goodwin) And I say this because this truth is most precious.

28. Scripture is the sun; The church is the clock.

29. We know that the sun is safe and constantly regular in its movement; The clock can be moved forward or backward.

30. Therefore, we must condemn as a fool the one who professes to trust in the clock rather than in the sun, and we cannot but observe the credulity of those who prefer to trust in the church than in the Scriptures.

31. (Proverbs 30:5) The word of God is clean, it is a shield to those who hope in Him; "Just as gold suffers no loss when subjected to fire, so neither do promises suffer loss when they are tested but remain valid even in our greatest tribulations. (Thomas Manton). Amen
