Slow to hear

"Slow to hear" - Hebrews 6:1-6 (Hebrews 5:11) Paul was talking about the Melchizedek priesthood. Although the priesthood of Christ is the order of Melchizedek, yet His priestly functions are like those performed by the Aaronic priests. In fact, the ministry of the Jewish priests was a way of giving notice of the work that Christ was going to do.

I. Paul stops.

A. He is under divine "pressure" to rebuke readers for immaturity.

1. To warn them seriously about the danger of relapse.

2. It is sadly true that our understanding of divine truth is limited by our own spiritual condition.

3. Hardened ears cannot receive deep truths!

4. The Lord has many things to say to us, but we cannot "carry" them (John 16:12).

5. Perfection had to begin.

6. Learn the Teachings: Christ is almost invariably presented as the object of faith.

7. Not that this displaces faith in God; but a faith in God that leaves out Christ is now inadequate.

8. John's baptism.

9. Dead works because they are void of faith.

10. The foundation: The great truths of the New Testament about Christ, His person, and His work is the mystery of maturity.

11. Now works are dead, they are empty of faith.

12. They were righteous, but they have been dead since the coming of Christ.

13. The services connected with the worship of the Temple are rendered out of place by the consumed work of Christ.

14. Faith in God.

15. Christ is almost invariably (does not vary or may vary) presented as the object of faith.

16. (Hebrews 6:6) Baptism (not Christian) but the ritual uprisings so prominent in the religious lives of the priests and people of Israel.

17. Laying on of hands (Leviticus 1:4; 3:2; 16:21).

18. The offeror or priest laid his hands on the head of an animal as an act of identification; In the form of an animal, it bore the sins of the person thus associated with him.

19. The resurrection of the dead is taught in Job (Job 19:25-29) (Psalm 17:15) (Isaiah 53:10-12).

20. What is not clear in the Old Testament is resplendently revealed in the New Testament (2 Timothy 1:10).

21. (Hebrews 6:3) Paul wants to help them in this if God really allows it.

22. Paul limited in time if he seeks God, He matures them.

23. (4) Let us now come to the heart of the warning against apostasy.

24. It applies to the kind of people whom it is "impossible" to restore to repentance.

25. Apparently, these people had repented in the past.

26. It is now clearly stated that renewed repentance is impossible.

27. Who are these people? (Hebrews 6:4-5)

28. They were enlightened.

29. They had heard the gospel of God's grace.

30. They were not in the dark about the way of salvation.

31. Judas Iscariot had been enlightened, "but he rejected the light."

32. They tasted the heavenly gift.

33. The Lord Jesus is the heavenly gift.

34. They had tasted Him, but they had never received Him with a definite act of faith.

35. It is possible to taste it without eating or drinking.

36. It is not enough to taste Christ.

37. If we do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, that is, unless we truly receive Him as Lord and Savior, we have no life in us (John 6:53).

38. (Hebrews 6:4) They had been made partakers of the Holy Spirit.

39. Here they are used by true believers.

40. I don't defend everyone's thoughts, that's why I take care of myself.

41. It is a warning to genuine believers to urge them (hurry, urge) "to growth" (not to stay with the flesh) and to the maturity of a believer.

42. (Hebrews 6:5) They tasted the good Word of God.

43. The truth has been found.

44. In God's Word we have found the truth.

45. In the Word we find truth and meaning in life.

46. Of the powers of the coming age is the Millennial Age, the coming age of peace and prosperity, in which Christ will reign over the earth for a thousand years.

47. (Hebrews 6:6) They relapsed (fell again), after having enjoyed the privileges just related; (4 For it is impossible), it is impossible for them to be renewed unto repentance.

48. They committed the sin of apostasy (rejection of Christianity, departure, revolt, or rebellion).

49. They've come to the place where the lights go out on the way to hell.

50. The enormous guilt of apostates (being set apart, separating, renouncing the divine body of Christ) is indicated in the words crucifying the Son of God anew to Himself and exposing Him to public reproach (ridicule, contempt, mistreatment, reproach, insult, infamy, injury, criticism).

51. This means a deliberate (purposeful, intentional) and malicious rejection of Christ, not just a negligent slackness of Him.

52. It indicates a positive betrayal, joining forces hostile to Him and hurling ridicule against His Person and Work. Amen.
