Beloved Son

"Beloved Son" - 1 Kings 14:1-20 Jeroboam was the king of the ten tribes, he was the one who replaced Solomon. He became an idolater with many gods, worshipping gods. Altars were erected outside Jerusalem. (1 Kings 12:28) Fear becomes an enemy of oneself and is given a platform to manifest itself and bring big lies. Trust in God is lost, and distrust arrives, and doubt and distrust of God is manifested; The danger comes, God has already seen it and the prophet will find out.

I. His son falls ill and dies.

A. When Jeroboam destroyed the kingdom and desecrated the priesthood, his son became ill.

1. Most likely, he was the firstborn; and therefore, the heir to the crown, when he died, all Israel mourned for him.

2. He sent his wife in disguise to ask the prophet Ahijah what was to happen to his beloved son.

3. If his child recovers or dies.

4. Now he had idols, not God.

5. It wasn't humiliation he was looking for; it was whether the child would live.

6. Jeroboam, his hand was restored, he knew of healing.

7. He sends his wife in disguise to the prophet Ahijah, who lived ignored and in darkness in Shiloh, blind with age, but still favored by the visions of the Almighty, the eyes of the body are not needed.

8. Jeroboam came to the prophet because of the predicament he was in.

9. Ahijah was the one who told Jeroboam that he was to be king. (1 Kings 14:2)

10. Someone said, "Those who by their sin make themselves unworthy of comfort and yet expect the ministers of God, because they are good people, to speak to them a word of peace and comfort, they harm themselves and dishonor ministers.”

11. His wife because she could state the case without naming names: "Sir, I have a sick son, will he recover his health or not?"

12. She would have lived those days with the child and seen him die in her arms, than ask the prophet what would become of him.

13. Moreover, she goes in disguise to conceal her personality from the court, people, and places through which she was to pass, but chiefly from the prophet whom she came to consult.

14. Leaving Jeroboam behind, to deceive the prophet, he was merely a son of anybody.

15. God says to Ahijah, "Behold, Jeroboam's wife will come to inquire of you about her son, who is sick, and she will come in disguise."

16. As she stopped at the door: “Come in, wife of Jeroboam” he said.

17. Why do you pretend to be someone else?

18. He is sent to her with harsh revelation.

19. God calls Himself Jehovah, the God of Israel (7).

20. The people leave God, but God had not left them.

21. God would take vengeance on the one who had done the most harm to Israel, by dragging them into idolatry, thus causing them to deny, to abandon, to renounce the true God.

22. (1 Kings 14:7-8) He claims that the kingdom of David, God had passed on to Jeroboam, a great favor for him, to make him king over God's chosen people, "taking the kingdom from the house of David to give it to him."

23. He accuses him of wickedness and apostasy and especially of idolatry: "You have done more evil than all who lived before you."

24. Jeroboam's calves are alien gods, he had exchanged the truth of a living God for calves.

25. (10-12) The evil that Jeroboam sought is coming.

26. All of his would be like dust blown by the wind.

27. There is no future with hope, everything in life has died, he is left alone, and death.

28. Their own that die will be eaten by dogs, those of the field that die will be eaten by birds; for Jehovah has said so.

29. (1 Kings 14:12-13) He gives her sentence of the child, "if he had survived, he would have been infected with sin and thus involved in the ruin of his father's house."

30. (13) For in him is found some good thing in the sight of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

31. Dying in the innocence of such a young age, a miniature image of God could still be seen in his soul.

32. Therefore, he will be the only one of all Jeroboam's family to die and be honorably buried, and he will be mourned as the survivors of the family wanted it for themselves.

33. But this very thing is going to be a sign of God's wrath against his family.

34. It was a sign of ruin to the family that God should take away the one who might have undertaken a religious reform in the country.

35. Jeroboam's wife has nothing to say against the word of the Lord, so she goes with a heavy heart to her home in Tirzah; and as she entered the threshold of the house, the child died, and all Israel (18) dirge him (sad song or lamentation) because of the hope that was placed in him. Amen.
