You Rejected the Word of Jehovah

"You Rejected the Word of Jehovah" - 1 Samuel 15:26-28 How little he accomplished by these poor tokens of repentance. Samuel was so far from giving him hope that his sin would be cancelled. To make the sentence more expressive, he illustrates it by means of a sign. When Samuel turned away from Saul, Saul tore Samuel's robe to prevent him from parting from him, Samuel as a prophet: (28) Jehovah has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today.

I. He has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.

A. The reason: You rejected Jehovah's Word.

1. Saul gives rise: he was the one who rejected the Word.

2. Because it could no longer work and do God's will, the reason, he was not willing to listen to God's voice, to obey what God wanted to do.

3. Saul was already doing his own word, and he had brought Jehovah God out of his mind, heart, and mouth.

4. (Psalm 50:17) "You hate my instruction."

5. They liked to instruct and correct others, for this nourished their pride, "but they hated to be corrected themselves," for this brought them humiliation, so that, "not to see them," "they threw the words of God upon their backs."

6. (Isaiah 5:24) The man who has no "kind of respect for the Word of God" will "be devoured" as "chaff is consumed in a fire."

7. Sin brings punishment.

8. The righteous God will take righteous vindication (defend).

9. God likened His people to a vineyard (4) from which He expected to receive good fruit; but God's grace had been received in vain.

10. The root itself had rotted away from below, so that all the shoots, barren and fruitless, had been blown to the wind like dust. a. Reject, set aside.

11. Sin weakens the strength of peoples, so that they are easily uprooted, robs them of the beauty of flourishing, and deprives them of all hope of good fruits of success and prosperity.

12. What can be expected, but the wrath of Jehovah of the Hosts, (army in battle) (going to war) of the Holy One of Israel, whose "law they trampled underfoot?

13. God does not reject men for "a" transgression (disobeying a rule, a pattern, or a standard) of any one of His law and His Word; but when "His law is trampled underfoot, and His Word is despised and even mocked, what else can they expect but that God will forsake them from everything?

14. (Jeremiah 6:10) One of the characteristics of false prophets is that they promise prosperity in times of spiritual decline.

15. Jehovah Almighty warns that the Babylonians will strip the earth as completely as the grape harvester (harvester gathers grapes) from among the branches (grape branch).

16. Jeremiah is frustrated at having to "speak" to people "who don't want to listen to him," but can't contain themselves (repress, lock them up).

17. Jehovah commands him to "pour out" the message of impending judgment (about to happen, imminent) because of the "greed," the falsehood of the prophets and priests, and their shamelessness (lack of shame and disrespect).

18. Behold, the Word of the Lord is a shameful thing to them, "They love it not."

19. (Jeremiah 36:23) When the princes reported the matter to the king (Jehoiakim) in "the court," he sent for "the scroll."

20. When Jehudi had "read" part, "the king cut off portions of the scroll (God's Word) and threw them into the 'fire,' which is a perfect picture of what liberals and nationalists (he holds that the only source of knowledge is human reason) have been doing with God's Word ever since.

21. "The whole thing was consumed," despite the protests of three of the main chiefs.

22. (Zechariah 7:12) They "would not hear" this message from the lips of "the first prophets," even though they spoke out of the "Spirit of Jehovah."

23. (11b) Instead of listening, they "turned their backs."

24. They put their shoulders first, as if they seemed ready to bear the yoke, but when the time came, they didn't really want to be with God in His Word.

25. Diamond is known for its extraordinary hardness, which is why it is used to cut glass, which cannot be done with a metal knife.

26. For this reason, it serves the prophet to express the extreme to which they had gone in the hardening of their hearts: they "set their hearts like diamonds," thus making themselves completely "insensible to all the appeals that were made to them from God," and prevented even their penetration into the conscience.

27. The Great Peril: (13) They cried out, "And I have not listened, saith the Lord of Hosts." Amen.
