Foolish Excuses – Luke 14:15-23 One of those who were with Jesus said, "Blessed is he who eats in the kingdom of God." What a beautiful supper! (12:37) Do you know what it is to think that when we are at the supper we are all seated together at the table where the Lord Himself, passing "near each one of us," will serve us? It is not normal for the master to bow down to serve his servants, but at a wedding banquet, the groom bends down to serve the bride, there is nothing strange about it.

I. The guest reclining at the table with Jesus enjoys how beautiful it would be to share in the blessings of God's kingdom.

A. Jesus tells them, as wonderful as it was to eat "bread in the kingdom of God”, the sad thing is that many guests do not go.

1. They invent all kinds of "foolish excuses" (irresponsible recklessness) to refuse to accept. In a moment.

2. So what this man said was not only a great and acknowledged truth, but also very appropriate at a time when they were reclining at the table.

3. The parable itself that the Lord proposed.

4. Jesus understood this exclamation: Well said!

5. Who will enjoy this privilege?

6. For they rejected Him, for the Gentiles are going to take the better part in Him.

7. (16) A man made a great supper and invited many.

8. In the generous invitation to many.

9. Christ invited all the people of Israel to partake of the blessings of the kingdom and the benefits of the gospel.

10. (17) Come, for all is ready.

11. Now is the acceptable time; Now is the day of salvation.

12. It was to say, "Everything is ready; Do not delay; Accept the invitation, you will all be welcome.

13. Jesus rejects no one; it is men who "will not come to Him that they may have life" (John 5:40).

14. (18) A cold, impolite, and contemptuous response (contempt, indifference) "which the grace of God receives from the guests." They all began to excuse themselves.

15. Human beings find one excuse for not attending dinner: How many excuses for not being at dinner?

16. Many do not dare to deny (abandon their religion, detest it) but make all kinds of excuses (such as yours that you have failed to do His will) for not giving yourself to the Lord.

17. All (18) of them excused themselves!

18. Unanimous in their rejection, though they differ in their excuses.

19. The first said, "I have bought a field, and I need to go and see it. I beg your pardon.

20. Frivolous excuse! (light and of little substance).

21. Like there isn't another day.

22. (19) I have bought five oxen joints, and I am going to try them.

23. His inconvenience (discomfort, rudeness): He is already in the process of testing his oxen and he find it uncomfortable to change his plans.

24. Vile excuses when invited to participate in the Messianic banquet.

25. Here he indicates a certain conviction of duty, which gives occasion for the heart to turn away from the priority, "the kingdom of God and His righteousness."

26. Your duty: take care that your heart departs from God's will for your life.

27. (20) And another said, "I have just been married, and therefore I cannot go."

28. The two of them could arrive at dinner together. What a false impossibility!

29. How many are there who forget the Gospel for the pleasures of this life!

30. (21) The servant returned and made these things known to his master.

31. The report which the servant brought to his master concerning the outrageous (insulting, offensive) excuses given by his guests for not attending the banquet, "by which they showed how little esteem they held him."

33. (21) The righteous indignation of the master of the house at the affront (offensive insult) makes him: Then the father of the family is angry.

34. The "ingratitude" (ungratefulness) of those who take the invitation of the Gospel lightly and the "contempt" with which they thus treat the riches of God's goodness. (Romans 2:4) (gentleness - He is graciously disposed toward sinners, though not toward their sins).

35. (21) Then the father of the house was angry, the righteous indignation of the master of the house.

36. (34) "I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my supper."

37. You Who Listen to Me: How Many Are Missing Dinner?

38. A grace despised is a lost grace, just like the birthright of Esau.

39. Those who do not want to receive Christ when they "can" will not be able to have Him when they "want" to have received Him.

40. (23) He said to his servant, "Go along the roads and the hedges and force them to enter."

41. The lord wanted his table to be surrounded by guests "as it is full of food".

42. (22) There was still room; go out of the city, at least where the idle wander and the homeless, and force them in. Amen.
