Conquered of Canaan

"Conquered of Canaan" - Exodus 17:8-13 He was born in Goshen in 1468 B.C. Pupil of Moses. Lieutenant (Person with authority and power to replace another in some position) of Moses, commander (military of the corps of chiefs of the armies of land and air, orders the subordinates to perform their duties) of the conquering Israelite army of Canaan. I. Defeat the Amalekites.

A. Joshua (Jehovah is salvation) first appears on the scene.

1. As a servant of Moses, fighting Amalek at Rephidim.

2. While "Moses lifted up his hand" in intercession and depending on God, the Israelites maintained the margin of victory.

3. But when Moses lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed.

4. Joshua stood there with the sword in his hand until Moses took strength again.

5. Joshua was the successor of Moses in the military campaigns carried out by the Hebrews in the conquest of Canaan.

6. He was born in Egypt.

7. He participated in the events narrated in (Exodus 33:11) "as a helper" to Moses.

8. It is worth noting that Joshua, then "a young man," never left the middle of the tabernacle.

9. It is possible that it was the secret "of his spiritual success" later.

10. (Numbers 14:6-10) When Joshua and Caleb tried to assure the people that they would be victorious against the enemy, "the people conspired to stone them."

11. (Exodus 32:17) Joshua listened: it seemed to him a scream of fighting in the camp, but it was not a loud shouting voice that usually expresses singing.

12. (Numbers 14:6-10) Exposed to being stoned by a rebellious people with the ten rebellious companions, gossipers and sowers of doubt, Joshua said, “We will eat them as bread.”

13. For this reason, he was chosen (V.9).

14. He was sent with the spies.

15. (Numbers 27:18-23) Chosen as Moses' successor (Deuteronomy 3:28).

16. In Moses' heart he would be very glad that Joshua was the chosen one.

17. He knew his dedication, purity, fidelity, humility and his silence in obeying.

18. And Joshua, son of Nun, was appointed in his place.

19. (Deuteronomy 31:23; 34:9) Endowed by Moses.

20. He assigned (Deuteronomy 34:9) Joshua and was filled with the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him, the people obeyed him, that is, God had his back (v.9), so it was because of this.

21. This is how "his servant" became his successor, Moses' humility to be a servant as well.

22. (Joshua 1:1-9) Encouraged by the Lord.

23. To possess the land to give to the children of Israel, to fulfill what God had told Abraham.

24. Joshua was to strive and "be very brave," not back down, obedient, besides.

25. There were good reasons why Joshua could strive: God's promise (5-6), a sure victory; God's Word (7-8), a sure guide; God's presence (9), "a sustained power." (endure, sustain, hold).

26. (Joshua 2:1-23) Send spies to Jericho (1) (Rahab).

27. Two spies found lodging in the house of a harlot named Rahab.

28. Joshua sent two just like him and Caleb, with wisdom and understanding.

29. He knew how to believe God; he knew how to fight.

30. Pass the Jordan.

31. (Joshua 3) took the Jordan in victory.

32. (Joshua 6) takes Jericho and Rahab and her family was blessed.

33. (Joshua 10:6-27) Helps Gibeon.

34. The Gibeonites sent Joshua for military help.

35. Don't (8) be afraid of them.

36. Secured by the Lord of Victory, Joshua attacked the enemy forces at Gibeon, causing them to flee.

37. Hailstones that killed only the enemy.

38. At Joshua's request, the sun and moon stopped, prolonging the hours the Israelites had to pursue and destroy the enemy before they could escape to the safety of their walled cities.

39. (Joshua 12:7-24) Distributes land.

40. He will deliver the kings in his hand.

41. No one will stand up to you until you destroy them. (Joshua 23:1-3) Exhorts the people.

42. Jehovah our God is the one who has fought for you.

43. Joshua's command to strive and keep the law (Joshua 24:14-24).

44. Renew the covenant.

45. Take away the gods.

46. Incline your hearts to the Lord God of Israel.

47. Joshua died at the age of 110 and was buried in the city of his inheritance.

48. The people of Israel remained faithful to Jehovah as long as the men of Joshua's generation lived. Amen.
