In the name of the Lord of Hosts

"In the name of the Lord of Hosts" - 1 Samuel 17:39-51 Probably, he was in his twenties and when Goliath saw him, he was enraged because it seemed to him a great insult that Israel would send what seemed only a child to fight him. David was not absolutely afraid. David had experienced "the power of God" at work in him when he defended his flock against the lion and the bear. He had proved God in private; now he could depend on God in public.

I. Brave David

A. Fear did not know him.

1. (1 Samuel 17:38) To get rid of the armor Saul wanted him to wear to carry out such a difficult confrontation.

2. All the weapons Saul offered him were impediments, which were to serve as a burden rather than a defense.

3. So, he cast out (1 Sam. 17:39) those things out of himself.

4. He can't walk around with what he's never practiced.

5. Simple, he took his staff (thick staff) and chose five smooth stones from the stream, that was his preparation.

6. It showed that all his trust was placed purely in the power of God.

7. Enemies like Goliath are proud, contemptuous (contempt, indifference, little respect) braggart (bragging about what is and what is not, especially brave or I think it is better daring).

8. When you look like Goliath is with contempt to the one in front, be careful how you look at it.

9. He looked (v. 42) and saw that he was a blond and beautiful-looking boy.

10. (v. 43) And he cursed David (v. 44) Come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field; that tender meat is going to be to them a delicious feast; that expression is to all those who wish me badly.

11. (v. 45) You come to me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of "Jehovah of Hosts," "whom you have provoked."

12. David relied solely on God's name.

13. (v. 46) It makes success dependent on God.

14. It is his faith that makes him say: Jehovah will give you today in my hand and not only your flesh, but also (you) the bodies of the Philistines I will give to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.

15. Everything that hurts the church, God takes care that does not lacerate His body: Church.

16. Everyone will know that there is one God and that the God of Israel is the only living and true God.

17. All Israel will know that Jehovah does not save with sword and spear.

18. (v. 48) The encounter between the two warriors.

19. He set out to meet David.

20. David hurried and ran to the battle line against the Philistine.

21. To the Philistine, David was a dwarf man.

22. Filled with bronze metals and iron like a mountain of metal was the way Goliath proved he would triumph.

23. David advanced with no less courage and activity, as one who is most interested in the execution of the enemy.

24. He was dressed lighter; he could go faster.

25. Everyone was full of terror, pity, poor young man ready to entertain the fury of the giants, the young Israelite, for the mouth of the wolf.

26. David knew who he believed in and for whom he acted.

27. Thus thinks he who has others below: He was not in a hurry, for he was not afraid, but hoped to smash David's head at the first blow of his sword; but while Goliath prepared slowly with solemnity (formalities, the rules), David acted quickly and without fuss (excessive or exaggerated demonstration): he threw with the sling a stone to his forehead which, in the blink of an eye, he found Goliath on the ground. (v. 49).

28. Who was the strong one?

29. Without having David a sword.

30. (v. 51) He took up the sword: David ran and went in front.

31. David drew the sword from the Philistine and with both hands, cut off his head with it.

32. The defeat of the Philistines as a result of the death of their champion (chief, defender).

33. As they depended entirely on the strength of their paladin, (knight who in the war was distinguished, strong and courageous), seeing him dead, they did not even think of throwing away their weapons and surrendering as servants; they ran away. Amen.
