The Truth That Abides in Us

The Truth That Abides in Us - 2 John 1-3 Truth is the correspondence between what we think or know about reality. Absolute truth is ideas or propositions (proposing) that are true for all cultures and all times. The absolute truth never has change, nor does it improve. Ex: The rain falls; the sun rises; the earth turns, here there are no changes, it is an absolute truth.

I. Whom I love in truth.

A. Not only John but all who have known the truth.

1. An unnamed (nameless) Christian lady who along with all other believers is a "chosen one" of God; chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.

2. It is especially significant that this warning against anti-Christian teachers is found in a letter addressed to a woman.

3. There are false teachers who like to go to teach in homes during the hours of the day when the man of the house is usually working.

4. This woman does not yield the truth to false, heretics.

5. Heretics may leave us and go out into the world, but in Christian society, "the truth will remain secure."

6. There was the one chosen to face the one who wants to take away the truth received by our beloved Lord Jesus.

7. (John 8:31-32) Jesus drew a distinction between those who are disciples and those who are truly His disciples.

8. A disciple is anyone who professes to be an apprentice, but a "true disciple" is one who has given himself in a real way to the Lord Jesus Christ.

9. True disciples "know the truth" and for that reason they are free.

10. Those who are true believers have these characteristics; "They abide in His word."

11. What does it mean? This means that they continue in the teachings of Christ.

12. They do not depart from Him.

13. True faith always has the quality of permanence.

14. They are not saved by abiding in His Word, but "abide in His Word because they are saved."

15. All true disciples are given the promise that they will "know the truth, and the truth will set them free."

16. He who attained the truth is saved, the others are false disciples.

17. Those who are not, someday will stop falsifying the light, then it will be noticed that they did not know the truth and are slaves of evil because the truth has not reached them. And for that reason, they are not free, they do not have the truth, it did not reach them.

18. Those who truly know the Lord Jesus are delivered from sin, walk in the light, and are led by the "Holy Spirit of God."

19. John declares that he loves this chosen lady and her children "in truth."

20. The saved are in wonderful fellowship, loving others whom they "never" would have loved were it not for their "common love" for "the truth of God."

21. "It is the truth" of God that binds hearts; the hearts of "all who have come to know the truth."

22. (2 John 2) "Because (principle of something, origin) of truth" is a phrase with two possible explanations.

23. It may refer to the motive for loving all the saints, or it may give John's reason for writing this letter.

24. "The truth" that remains in us and will always be with us.

25. Here "the truth" can make understand:

a. The Lord Jesus Christ: He said, "I am... the truth" (John 14:6).

b. The Holy Spirit. The Spirit is truth (1 John 5:6; see John 14:16–17).

c. The Bible. "Your word is the truth" (John 17:17).

26. How should we pause in admiration to see ourselves sustained by these three, "and to be with us forever"!

27. (Ephesians 4:14-15) Immaturity, when you never engage in aggressive service for Christ you never leave the condition of spiritual "child."

28. We need (v. 14) not to be fluctuating children who are carried by all winds: need for union, doctrinal acceptance (biblical teachings or principles): "but holding fast to the truth 'in love'. Amen.
