The Inability to Receive Stronger Doctrine - 1 Corinthians 3:1-2 In our lives is wanting to be spiritual. Not to be spiritual is then to live carnal. Before we were without any knowledge of the word, nothing of God. Now if we have a mixture of carnal with an appearance of servant of God; for it shocks, reason is a mixture of human reasoning, accommodating to our convenience of what we want or intend and thus the work of God cannot be done any good.
I. At first, Paul visited the Corinthians.
A. He fed believers the elemental milk of the word.
1. Elementary because they were weak and young in the faith.
2. The teaching He had given them "was appropriate" to their condition.
3. They could not receive deep spiritual instruction "because they were new believers."
4. They were mere (breast) children in Christ.
5. The believers were still "carnal."
6. (V. 2) He taught them only elementary truths concerning Christ, which he refers to as "milk."
7. They could not take "solid food" because of their "immaturity."
8. (John 16:12) Jesus said: I still have many things to say to you, but now you will not be able to bear them.
9. There is an important principle in teaching.
10. There must be "some progress" in learning before "advanced truths" can be received.
11. The Lord never overwhelmed the disciples with teachings.
12. He gave them "line upon line", precept upon precept. (Order or mandate imposed, established by an authority).
13. The believers were still "carnal," with a low state of soul.
14. This became evident because there was jealousy between them (when he felt that another person preferred one person (third) instead of him); contests (fighting, confrontation, or discussion); Dissensions (lack of agreement between two or more people or lack of acceptance of a situation, decision, or opinion).
15. Are you not carnal and walk like men?
16. Such conduct is characteristic of the men of this world "but not of those who are being led by the Spirit of God."
B. (Matthew 16:11) Lack of vision.
1. In referring to the "leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees," the Lord was not referring to bread, but to bad doctrine and conduct.
2. How they could not understand the leaven of the Pharisees as hypocrisy.
3. (22) Peter was indignant at the thought that the Master should undergo such treatment.
4. He protested and wanted to block their way: Lord, God forbid; "In no way will this happen to you."
5. The need for teaching.
6. (Galatians 4:1) However, 'meanwhile' that he remains "a child", the condition of the heir is like that of the "slave".
7. You are continually being told what to do and what not to do.
8. Perhaps, the brethren are under the law, Paul wanted them to understand that Christianity is spiritual, internal, and permanent.
9. The law was external rudiments; It was a form of slavery.
10. (John 3:4) Jesus is leading Nicodemus to the doctrine of the Master.
11. Nicodemus does not understand the spiritual, he was carnal so his thought.
12. Nicodemus reveals the reality that "the natural man does not grasp the things that are of the Spirit of God because they are folly to him (1 Corinthians 2:14) and cannot know them because they are to be spiritually discerned."
13. He could not understand how an adult could be "born" again.
14. It was physically impossible for a man to "enter" his mother's womb a second time in order to be reborn.
15. (Hebrews 5:12) So he tells the brethren that they had been receiving instruction long enough that they could now be teaching others.
16. But the tragedy was that they still needed to be "taught" the "ABCs of God's word."
17. (13) They should already be teachers.
18. Reason, they ceased to be carnal.
19. God's order is that every believer should mature to the point where he can teach in everything for his maturity.
20. Take care of yourself, grow: "You have come to have need of milk and not food."
21. Then you cannot receive your strongest doctrine and you will fall behind and you will not understand like Nicodemus.
22. Inner deficiency of growth in the spiritual.
23. Then, you will not understand, and you will be asking, giving your opinion, in contests, in discussions and the worst in dissensions.
