Duty - (Luke 12:50) It is a certain obligation. What God expects of you. The doctor is expected to do his duty. The policeman is expected to do his duty. This is life, duty is the service that we have to do on earth. The nature of the human being is absolutely for one. When you look around and you can see that you have a duty in your existence, you will see how sweet your life will be, when you fulfill your own.

I. The Father's will for His son. To. By the hour He suffered, He came into the world.

1. He had a baptism of being baptized.

2. This refers to His baptism to the point of death on Calvary.

3. He was overwhelmingly (overwhelmed, distressed) constrained (oppressed, distressed) to go to the cross to fulfill redemption (salvation, rescue) for the lost humanity.

4. Think this of you, Jesus was thinking of you: whether you accept Him or not.

5. Shame, suffering, and "death" were the Father's will for Him, and He was "longing to obey."

6. (John 9:4) The Savior knew He had about three years of public ministry before He was crucified.

7. Every moment of that time was to be invested in "working for God."

8. Here was a man blind from birth. The Lord Jesus was to perform a miracle of healing in him, even if it was a Sabbath.

9. Soon the time of His public ministry would end, and He would no longer be on earth.

10. This is a solemn (ceremonious, majestic, grandiose, imposing, pompous) reminder to every Christian that the day of life is passing fast, and that night is coming, when our service on earth will be forever finished.

11. Therefore, "we should use the time" we are given to "serve the Lord in an acceptable manner."

12. He serves our lives with redemption (delivering from punishment), for we must know what our "duty" is to Him and not crumbs, but that it be acceptable (taken for good, approved).

13. Ask your life today: Has my service to the Lord been acceptable? Has my service been accepted?

14. (Jeremiah 20:9) He found God's grace by working mightily in him to keep him fixed in "his office." And if I say in my haste: I will make no more mention of Him or speak more in His name...

15. If I repress (restrain) and shut up what I carry in my heart to communicate it...

16. But no! Soon I find that there is in my heart like a burning fire in my bones; that fire is flaring internally and must be released; I am tired of trying to contain it, but I cannot; it is impossible to put it out.

17. Jeremiah has soon become weary of striving to contain the eruption of that volcano that prompted him to preach the message.

18. There is nothing that hurts God's faithful ministers as much as preventing them from preaching the gospel.

19. (Amos 3:8) If the lion roars, who will not fear? If Jehovah the Lord speaks, who will not prophesy?

20. This verse declares that the prophet has no choice but to prophesy when God speaks so that His message may be communicated.

21. (Acts 4:20) Peter and John stood before the Council.

22. Live were they with those who were going to crucify the Master.

23. They resented that they taught the people and that in Jesus was the resurrection from the dead.

24. They went to jail.

25. Peter and John could not accept their prohibitions like this.

26. His first loyalty and responsibility were to "God," not to man.

27. The apostles had witnessed the resurrection and ascension of Christ.

28. They had sat down to His teaching "every day."

29. They were responsible for bearing witness to "their Lord" and "Savior Jesus Christ."

30. (1 Corinthians 9:19) Paul says he cannot rejoice (boast) for preaching the gospel.

31. He had a divine impulse.

32. It was not a "vocation he had chosen for himself."

33. He had received the appointment and would be the most unfortunate of men if he did not obey the divine commission.

34. The decision to preach did not come from himself, but from the Lord.

35. It wasn't that Paul wasn't willing to preach the gospel.
