Baptism - Matthew 3:6 The word Baptism comes from the Greek "Baptizo", which means "To submerge" (to introduce a person into a liquid so that it is completely covered) or "Washing with water".

I. John was the one who baptized.

A. John the Baptist

1. (Matthew 3:6) They were baptized by John in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

2. (Matthew 28:19) Therefore, go and make disciples in all nations.

3. It was the duty of the disciples to lead others to be apprentices or followers of the Savior.

4. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

5. Baptism is a commandment that must be obeyed.

6. At baptism, believers publicly identify with the Trinity and One Deity.

7. They recognize that God is their Father, that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior; and that the Holy Spirit is the one who dwells in them, gives them strength, energy, and teaches them.

8. One name or essence (His nature, property, quality), but three Persons— Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

9. (Luke 3:3) John called the nation of Israel to repent of their "sins" in order to receive forgiveness and thus prepare for the coming of the Messiah.

10. He called the people to be baptized as an outward sign that they had truly repented.

11. (Luke 3:21-22) In Jesus' baptism the three Persons of the Trinity appear: Jesus (21); the Holy Spirit (22);the Father (22b).

12. (21) Jesus prayed at His baptism.

13. This agrees with Luke's intention to present Christ as the Son of Man, always "dependent" on God the Father.

14. God said: You are my beloved Son, with You I am well pleased. (Satisfaction, contentment, pleasure, joy.)

15. (Romans 6:4) Water baptism gives a visual demonstration of baptism in Christ.

16. It exhibits the believer being immersed in the dark waters of death (in the Person of the Lord Jesus) and presents the new man in Christ rising to walk in (new) newness of life.

17. There is a sense in which a believer attends the funeral of his old self when he is baptized.

18. As he passes underwater, he is saying, "All that I was as a sinful son of Adam was put to death on the cross."

19. (Galatians 2:20) Coming out of the water he is saying, "It is no longer I who lives, but Christ lives in me."

20. Let us walk in new life.

21. A Lord, a faith, a baptism (Ephesians 4:5) by which converts confess their identification with Christ in death, burial, and resurrection.

22. At present there are different modes of baptisms, the New Testament recognizes a baptism of believers, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

23. (Acts 18:8) The Apostle Paul had the joy of seeing Crispus, the chief of the synagogue with his whole house, come to the Lord.

24. Many other Corinthians trusted in the Savior and were baptized.

25. Paul baptized Crispus and a few others. (1 Corinthians 1:14-16)
