The adulteress Forgiven by Jesus - John 7:53, 8:1-13 Jesus had come into Nicodemus' life (John 7:50); the marshals say, "No man has ever spoken like this man! (John 7:46) Then the Pharisees answered, Have you also been deceived? The Feast of Tabernacles (huts or temporary dwellings in which the Jews lived during the 40 years in the wilderness) was over. Some found the Savior personally. Most had rejected Him, and the leaders were more willing than ever to get rid of Him.

I. Everyone went home.

A. But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

1. The Mount of Olives was not far from the temple.

2. And in the morning, very early in the morning, the Lord Jesus descended the slope (sides of the mountain) of the Mount of Olives, crossed the Kidron Valley (between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives) and went back up to the city, where the temple was located.

3. The Reason: All the people came to Him; and seated, He taught them.

4. (John 8:3) The higher level of religiosity, the scribes, and the Pharisees longed to induce (provoke or cause something) the Lord Jesus to say something wrong, reason to accuse Him.

5. The ideal to accuse someone: A woman caught in the same act of adultery and put in the middle of the crowd, surely where Jesus was; was not the sinner, it was to test the Lord.

6. They thought they were cleaner, holier, purer than Jesus and all who were there.

7. When you know about religion it is easy to fall into a level of spirituality and fall into judging. It is easy to forget grace and reach the measure of judge, against our beloved Jesus.

8. Tempt Jesus and then accuse Him: reason to think that one is better in the rules than Jesus, one forgets that one has the law, how to measure others, Jesus has His grace, His life for the sinner.

9. (John 8:4) The accusation of adultery was made against this woman and was undoubtedly true.

10. There is no reason to doubt that she had been caught while committing this terrible sin.

11. The man was set free, but she was set free by the forgiveness of the great "I am."

12. (John 8:5) It was cheating, now it is clear.

13. They wanted the Lord to contradict "the law of Moses."

14. If they were to shame Jesus, by the law of Moses the commons of the people would be against Jesus and His work would be questioned by the religious.

15. They want to remind Jesus that Moses had commanded in the law that people taken in the act of adultery should be stoned.

16. They wanted to know what He would say and disagreed and so they asked Him what He had to say about this.

17. They demanded that the righteousness and law of Moses be set as a public example.

18. (John 8:6) They had no real accusation against the Lord and tried to fabricate one.

19. They knew that if He let the woman go free, He would be opposing the Law of Moses and could "accuse" Him of being unjust.

20. If he condemned the woman to death, they could then use this to prove that He was an enemy of the Roman government and could also say that He was not merciful.

21. My beloved Jesus, leaning towards the ground, wrote on the ground with His finger.

22. (John 8:7) So Jesus simply replied that the penalty imposed by the law should be applied, but that those who "had committed no sin" should do so.

23. He did not defend the woman, but what He did was accuse each of those men of having sinned themselves.

24. It is not to excuse sin; what it does is condemn the guilty, even if they have never been discovered.

25. (John 8:8) Again, the Savior leaned to the ground and continued to write on the ground.

26. (John 8:9) They, those who had accused the woman, felt accused by their conscience.

27. Nothing more to say.

28. They started to go away, one by one.

29. Everyone considered themselves guilty, from the oldest to the youngest.

30. Jesus was left alone with the woman who was nearby.

31. (John 8:10) Jesus said to the woman that those who accused her had disappeared.

32. There was no one who came forward to condemning her.

33. (John 8:11) Neither do I condemn you; go away and sin no more.

34. His advice: sin no more; in it was: to sin or not to sin.

35. Jesus Christ is God, and His standard is absolute perfection.

36. Sin is not approved to any degree.

37. And so He puts before her the perfect standard of God Himself.
