"Rainbow, The Covenant to Comfort" (Genesis 9:11-17) The Rainbow, which represents colors from red, orange, yellow, green, cyan (light blue), indigo (navy blue) to violet. It forms in the atmosphere on a screen of rainwater droplets or drizzle, although they can also be drops of fog. Colored arcs are formed by refraction (when sunlight strikes water (water droplets) colors are reflected) and reflection of light rays emitted by the sun or moon on this screen of water droplets. Thus, in order to see the rainbow, it is only necessary that the sun's rays illuminate "the screen of water droplets from the opposite end of the horizon (line that apparently separates heaven and earth)" "placing the person who observes between them," with the sun on his back. In addition, the sun should not be far above the horizon (line that divides sea and sky) since, if it is at an elevation above 42 degrees; the rainbow cannot be observed. When two reflections are given at once, instead of just one, a secondary rainbow can be observed located on the outside of the primary, since the secondary rainbow encloses the primary.

I. The rainbow was given as a sign of covenant with man.

A. Promise that rain would not destroy the human being.

1. To the fear of Noah, God gives him security.

2. The earth had to be raised again.

3. The land will not be destroyed with rain.

4. The old world was destroyed to be a monument of righteousness, so also the world today remains to this day to be a monument of mercy, according to God's oath (Isaiah 54:9) that Noah's waters will never again pass over the earth.

5. If the sea pounced on the land for a few days at the rate it does for a few hours twice a day, what desolation would ensue!

6. We will be able to glorify God, every time we see the rain falling and the hope that it will stop.

7. His faithfulness in fulfilling.

8. I don't know if you marvel when you see the rainbow.

9. On our island they are seen very often, and you can get used to it; but it is a spectacle of colors, it is to see the covenant of God with such fidelity to the earth.

10. The seal of this covenant of nature was natural enough: the rainbow.

11. Regarding this seal of the covenant, note: 1. This seal is printed with repeated assurances of the truth of the promise whose ratification was meant to be: (V. 13) My bow I have placed in the clouds; it will be seen in the clouds.

12. (V.4) It will be seen in the clouds so that the eye affects the heart and confirms the faith.

13. It is a covenant for my eyes and every time the rainbow comes out it affects (interest) to look at the rainbow, produces to the eye faith that God fulfilled or fulfills what He promised.

14. It will be the sign of the covenant (V. 12-13) and I will remember my covenant (V.15) there will be no more flood of waters to destroy all flesh.

15. The rainbow retreats when the rain retreats; when the rain-laden clouds come out.

16. Thus, God sets aside our fears when we have the most reason to fear that rain will prevail.

17. The denser the cloud, the sharper the rainbow stands out in it!

18. (2 Corinthians 1:5) Tell them to the devil's threats.

19. Similarly, the greater the threat of new afflictions, the greater the stimulus of abundant consolations.

20. The rainbow appears when a part of the firmament is already clear, which hints at the memory of mercy in the midst of anger; and it seems as if the clouds are surrounded by the arch so that they do not spread through the sky: "for the arch is the rain in color."

21. A bow inspires terror, but this bow has no rope or arrow, and a bare bow can do little.

22. It's an arc, but it's pointing to heaven, not earth; for the signs of the covenant are not meant to frighten, "but to comfort." Amen.
