The Suffering Servant of Jehovah (Isaiah 53)

TOPIC: “The Suffering Servant of Jehovah (Isaiah 53)” Mark 3:1-6 Today God wants me to know about the Lord Jesus: THAT HE IS THE SUFFERING SERVANT! How and what do we know about Jesus that we can even get upset with Him when we are not pleased? Throughout the years I have been able to see in the people who come to the church, the demands that they put on the Lord because of their willing flesh. Let us know Whom we serve! We serve THE SUFFERING SERVANT OF JEHOVAH!

I. Romans 8:34 “…Christ is the one who died; more than that, who was raised to life, who is also at the right hand of God…”

A. "...and is also INTERCEDING FOR US."

1. Jesus, already glorified, remains a Suffering SERVANT of Jehovah.

2. Do you know how much the Suffering SERVANT presents himself to the Father for you, and how much has to do with you, and how many times He goes to the Father to cover you?

B. In Mark 3:1-6 We see the Lord BUSY like a servant; first He was at the synagogue and healed a man’s hand.

1. Jesus was in many places that day. After the synagogue he went to the seashore and HEALED many, then he went up the mountain and CHOSE the twelve, he kept going and went to the house and there he RECEIVED many people. Do you know? Wherever there are two or three gathered in His name He will be with them (Matthew 18:20).

2. (Vs. 1) Jesus went to the synagogue and took advantage of it to DO GOOD at the opportunity he had.

3. There was a man with a dry hand who could not help himself.

4. This was another trial case for the Lord before the Pharisees, as it occurred on a Saturday.

5. (Vs. 2) In that moment, everyone would ask themselves: Will Jesus heal him on the Sabbath?

6. A SERVANT DOES NOT HAVE FREE DAYS TO STOP DOING GOOD THAT COMES FROM GOD!

7. If he did, the Pharisees would have something to accuse him of. We cannot imagine what evil, what hypocrisy and apathy it is to go against doing good!

8. There was nothing they could do to help this man and they resented (they got angry, annoyed) that someone could help him.

9. To the one who is A SERVANT, they were looking for some reason by which to Condemn him, by any means, to accuse the Lord of Life!

10. If Jesus healed on the Sabbath, they would go after Him like a pack of wolves.

11. (Vs. 3) But, NO ONE WOULD EVER DETAIN A SERVANT!

12. The one with the dry hand was there in the middle of everyone, and there was no feeling Of pain from any of them, there was no compassion, but indeed there was criticism, gossip and hatred. If there was any good in them, they would have rejoiced for that healing.

13. (Vs. 4) Then Jesus asked them: Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?

14. His question revealed the evil of the Pharisees.

15. For them, it was wrong for the Lord to perform a miracle of healing on the Sabbath!

16. And for them, it was not wrong to plan His destruction on the Sabbath!

17. They remained silent so that Jesus would not say more.

18. (Vs. 5) "...deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts..."

19. The sin that His eyes met was: THE HARDNESS OF THEIR HEARTS!

20. We, from others, hear what has been said and see what they do; but Christ looks directly at the heart, which is where the root of bitterness sprouts; He knows the blindness of the mind and the hardness of the heart.

21. The Servant treated the poor patient very kindly and said: Stretch out your hand!

22. As he did so, his strength returned, the flesh expanded to normal size, and the wrinkles disappeared. He was instantly healed!

23. The Servant teaches us TO CONTINUE TO GO FORWARD WITH ALL DETERMINATION (resolution, courage and spirit) IN THE PATH OF OUR DUTY, no matter how violent the opposition that meets us may be on that path!

24. The Servant was never interested in offending, but before dismissing this poor sick man without a cure, HE ADVENTURED TO OFFEND ALL THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES SURROUNDING HIM!

25. This was more than the Pharisees could bear!

26. (Vs. 6) They left the synagogue and quickly came into contact with the Herodians, their traditional enemies, to plot with them to see how they would destroy Jesus.

27. The Herodians = were supporters of the house of Herod Antipas, political Jews with influence before the king. They allied themselves with the Pharisees, despite being contrary, to find a way to surprise Jesus in a word that would serve to apprehend him. They were the ones who questioned Jesus about whether it was lawful to pay the tribute to Caesar (Matthew 22:16-22).

28. Pharisees and Herodians had a common enemy: THE SERVANT OF GOD!

29. The Pharisees hoped they would kill Jesus as they did John the Baptist, since King Herod had ordered and killed John. This was the hope of the Pharisees.

30. For them it was wrong for Jesus to heal the man with the dry hand. But, even after seeing for themselves the compassion and healing miracle done by THE SERVANT OF GOD, they went to deliver Him!

31. Jesus is THE SUFFERING SERVANT OF GOD who does not stop or get tired of working and doing good to those who are his disciples, his followers and to all those who the Father calls and chooses.

32. Let us learn from our Master to love and SERVE with courage without backing down! Amen.
