The Truth In Real Disciples

STUDY: # 1085 CHURCH IN THE HOUSES DATE: APRIL 15, 2020

TOPIC: "The Truth In Real Disciples" John 8:31,32 The truth is simply about what is real or certain; what cannot be doubted. The concept of truth also encompasses values such as HONESTY, SINCERITY and FRANKNESS. HONESTY is in that decent, upright, honest and fair person. A person who has SINCERITY lacks pretense or second intentions. FRANKNESS is in a person who expresses what they think because their thoughts are honest, loyal, true and will make us feel comfortable; because we can trust that they WILL NOT DECEIVE US! This is how the Lord Jesus Christ’s true disciples are!

I. Those who listened to Jesus were amazed!

A. Some have genuinely put their faith in Him; others are inclined to only pay Him a mouthy or superficial tribute.

1. Jesus made a distinction between His disciples and those who TRULY are his disciples!

2. A disciple of the Lord is anyone who professes to be an apprentice in the faith. But a TRUE DISCIPLE of Christ is one who HAS TRULY GIVEN THEMSELVES to the Lord Jesus.

3. Those who ARE TRUE (the truth is about what is real, what cannot be doubted) BELIEVERS have these characteristics; they fulfill this: “… if you remain in My Word.” (Vs.31)

4. The real ones DO NOT TURN AWAY FROM HIM, THEY REMAIN IN HIS WORD!

5. True faith always has the quality of being PERMANENT.

6. True believers remain in His Word; therefore, they are saved.

7. (Vs.32) Jesus gives all true disciples the promise that they WILL KNOW THE TRUTH and THE TRUTH WILL SET THEM FREE!

8. They will simply know the truth, what is real and cannot be doubted.

9. WE ARE FREE BECAUSE WE HAVE KNOWN THE TRUTH!

B. We have THE TRUTH. (Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, WHATEVER IS TRUE, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”)

1. The apostle says goodbye with advice about how our THOUGHTS should be.

2. Your thinking is polite because THE TRUTH came into your life.

3. For this reason, your mind or way of thinking can be controlled.

4. A person cannot have both bad and good thoughts about the Lord Jesus.

5. We have known the truth and IT IS SIMPLY A MATTER OF WHAT IS CERTAIN, WHAT CANNOT BE DOUBTED!

6. Don't let the dangers of bad thinking come into your life!

7. Always seek to have in your thoughts "... whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable…”

8. Because of these virtues you will have a GOOD REPUTATION!

9. Here we can see what a true disciple is!

10. Everything that is praiseworthy, everything is found in the Lord Jesus Christ!

11. This is the life of a disciple in which there is no deception!

12. SO THESE MUST BE YOUR VIRTUES:

13. "whatever is true,” means that you’re not false or unworthy, but sincere and real. If this is in Jesus, then it must be in you. It is impossible that, if we are true disciples, there are other things in our lives such as lies, deception and double thinking.

14. "whatever is honorable,” you’re decent, upright and honest. Everything that is morally appealing. In God there is no double thought. You are not an apprentice disciple. But if you are a true disciple, it is because you have truly given yourself to the Lord Jesus. In Him there is everything that is good.

15. “whatever is just,” means that you are a righteous person for both God and men. You don't show God a good face, and then betray men on earth; lie to them and hurt them. If you were like that, you would not be a true disciple.

16. "whatever is pure," refers to the high moral character of a person's life. When you say that you are pure for God and you’re not for men on earth; then you’re only paying a mouthy or superficial tribute to God. Then you are someone who must fall at Jesus’ feet and say: "Forgive me. I want to be a true disciple because I do not have the truth and for this reason, I deceive my brother."

17. "whatever is lovely..." is what is attentive, courteous, affectionate, sociable, simple and pleasant. Your life is full of everything admirable or pleasant that someone can contemplate.

18. “whatever is commendable...” of good reputation, of good fame.

19. “if there is any excellence ..." refers to moral excellence. And “if there is anything worthy of praise …” this is what everyone who has believed and followed the Master should think about!

20. You are a man with the truth because you have these beauties that a true disciple has.

C. 2 Timothy 2:15 "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, RIGHTLY HANDLING THE WORD OF TRUTH."

1. Paul advises Timothy to diligently, not lazily, seek to present himself to God approved (that is, capable, able). Your efforts should focus on becoming a worker who does not have to be ashamed. And the way to do it is to correctly trace the word of truth. "Uprightly trace the truth, in a full and unadulterated way."

2. You have nothing to add to the truth, because the truth of the Word is self-explanatory.

3. TRUE DISCIPLES REMAIN IN ITS TRUTH! Amen.
