Knowing Our Behavior

Topic: “Knowing Our Behavior” James 3:13 It is believed that there are three factors or elements that regulate or influence behavior. THE FIRST IS “THE END OR OBJECTIVE FOR WHICH ONE DOES THINGS.” A conduct begins with an objective, from a desire to reach an intended goal. Behavior acquires meaning when there is motivation. That is, behavior has something that mobilizes it: a cause. So, a behavior has or occurs for a particular reason. We are and do according to what we want or what we are looking for. There are two other elements that guide our behavior; these are “SOCIETY” and “THE ENVIRONMENT.” A person's behavior has a lot to do with THE SOCIETY or group of people with whom they interact, and with the physical and social ENVIRONMENT in which they move. These two are EXTERNAL factors that influence any person’s behavior. There is another factor or element somewhat different from the previous three, which is the biological factor (genetics). The biological element comprises genetic issues of each person’s internal character. People have different behaviors; in this case behavior would be defined as a reaction. The diversity of behaviors is due to the fact that people have different goals and objectives in their lives. Behavior responds to the desired end during the time that is lived. People will act according to that particular stimulus. In His Word, God teaches and guides us towards the behavior He expects of those who follow Him.

I. (James 3:13) If someone is WISE AND UNDERSTANDING, he will show it through his GOOD CONDUCT!

A. GOOD CONDUCT comes along with the humble spirit that comes from wisdom.

1. Your behavior says more of you than what you speak.

2. Children have bad behaviors that they learn from their parents.

3. For example, there are rude children. This rudeness comes from the words they hear from their parents when these get upset and filled with anger; when their face distorts, or their voice becomes thicker.

4. A humble spirit can only be found in the corner where we pray, in the prayer corner of the believer who loves God!

5. "... Show by good conduct your deeds in wise meekness."

6. The Lord Jesus, who is the embodiment of true wisdom, was neither proud nor arrogant. He was meek and with a humble heart. (Matthew 11:29 "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am GENTLE AND LOWLY IN HEART, and you will find rest for your souls.")

7. Therefore, all those who are "truly" wise will bear the mark of GENUINE HUMILITY. Their good behavior will show their works in wise meekness!

8. Humility or the absence of it is seen in your children, if not today; tomorrow!

B. (Proverbs 20:11) The boy is known BY HIS CONDUCT.

1. From early childhood, children show the characteristic lines that indicate their behavior for a lifetime!

2. This is why parents should diligently observe their children, to "discover their dispositions and inclinations," and direct them towards wisdom, and a spirit of humility.

3. Today there is little humility in children and youth. And even as adults, they behave like those who do not have a spirit of humility, which is necessary to achieve wisdom from above.

4. The messages and silly games found in the web have them brainwashed and therefore Heaven’s wisdom cannot enter!

C. (2 Peter 2:6-9) The same God who unleashes destruction upon the wicked, because of their bad conduct, rescues the righteous and wise who do not let SOCIETY OR THE ENVIRONMENT in which they live in make them misbehave.

1. Peter teaches us this with Lot's experience.

2. Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, tells us that Lot was a righteous man who was overwhelmed by the DISORDERLY BEHAVIOR (bold and immoral conduct) of those libertines.

3. God saw Lot’s genuine faith, and that Lot loved justice and hated sin!

4. The moral conduct of those wicked could not influence over LOT’S BEHAVIOR, his genuine faith.

5. During Lot's time, the conduct of the wicked was abominable, detestable, hateful, cruel and immoral. Today, it is the same with those around us. I think that should worry us. What is YOUR CONDUCT?

6. (Vs.7) In the midst of the nefarious conduct (abominable evil) of those wicked, Lot, who was righteous, afflicted his righteous soul EVERY day over what he saw in them. No one could make his behavior change because he was righteous.

7. Lot was not changed by the ENVIRONMENT or SOCIETY because his purpose was good; his OBJECTIVE was to always please our God! Amen.
