Look! The Lamb of God!

STUDY: # 1036 -CHURCH IN THE HOUSES FROM: JUNE 18 @ 24, 2019

TOPIC: Look! The Lamb of God! John 1: 29-34 The news came to Jerusalem of a man named John, who was calling the Jewish nation to repentance because the Messiah was coming. The Jews immediately sent a commission of priests and Levites to find out what that was about (John 1: 19-21). Of course, they were the maximum religious leaders. The priests were the ones who carried out the important functions of the temple, and the Levites were the servants who assisted them in their common duties. Then, they asked John, "Who are you?" "What then?" “Are you the prophet?” (The Messiah?) And John made it clear to them: "I am not the Christ." John was "... THE VOICE of one crying out in the desert ...," because the people had turned away from God. John was "the voice ...," but Christ was THE VERB, THE WORD (John 1:1-18)! The Word needs a voice to make itself known and the voice lacks value without the Word. The Word is of infinitely greater value than the voice. It can also be our privilege to be a voice for Him! Matthew Henry said, "Jesus is called the Word, because He was the Son of God, sent to earth to reveal the mind of His Father to the world." (Verb = is a word with which action is expressed) Here in these verses of the Bible we have proof that Jesus is God, that He has been with, and existed as God the Father from the beginning (John 1:1,14 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.")!

I. (John 1:14) "And that Word was made flesh ..." Jesus was born as a baby in a stable in Bethlehem.

A. He had always existed as the Son of God, as the Father in Heaven, but now He wanted to come into the world in a human body.

1. John was in the Jordan River when the Jewish leaders of Jerusalem visited him.

2. (Vs.29) The following day, after the Pharisees’ visit, "... John saw Jesus coming to him ..."

3. God! What a look John must’ve given Him, the greatest anyone could give in life!

4. In the excitement and enthusiasm of the moment, he exclaimed, "Behold the Lamb of God ..."

5. The good news had arrived for the salvation, peace, joy, eternity and purity of man with God.

6. Among the Jews, the LAMB was an animal used in sacrifices. That's how Jesus would be sacrificed!

7. It was so that we can love Him. He was the sacrifice of Israel!

8. For them that was well known, because God had taught His chosen people to sacrifice (offer) a lamb and sprinkle its blood as a sacrifice for sins.

9. The lamb was slain as a substitute for man who had sinned and the blood was shed as payment for sins to be forgiven.

10. The pious Jews had waited for centuries for the coming of this Lamb!

11. Finally the time had come and John the Baptist was the triumphant announcer of the arrival of the TRUE LAMB OF GOD!

12. Up there, the one who looked like the star was John and everyone followed him; Peter, Andrew (Vs.35,40) and others.

B. Then, Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River (Matthew 3:13-17).

1. (Vs. 35-36) John already knew the Lamb. Every time he looked at Him, he said, "... Here is the Lamb of God."

2. John fixed all his attention on His Person.

3. Peter and Simon had heard John preach repentance and believed what he said (Vs.35-42).

4. But they had not met Jesus!

5. Then, John lost his disciples when he preached of the Lamb!

6. (Vs.37,38) Peter and Andrew followed Jesus. And Jesus asked them, "What are you looking for?"

7. "They went and saw where he dwelt and they stayed with Him that day..." Wherever the Lord dwells I will stay with Him! Their fire, their passion was great and Jesus did not reject them.

8. They spent that night in the same house with the Creator of the universe!

9. They were the first in the Jewish nation to recognize the Messiah!

10. Andrew brought his brother, Peter, to meet Him; it would be the meeting of a lifetime! (Vs.41,42)

11. Andrew wanted "his brother" to also get to know Him, and took him to where the Master was. Surely, he would tell his brother, Peter: "LOOK! THE LAMB OF GOD!"

12. Jesus knew Peter: Simon, the unstable (Vs.42).

13. How did Jesus know all this? BECAUSE HE WAS AND IS GOD! Amen.
