Understand Me and Know Me

TOPIC: "Understand Me and Know Me" Jeremiah 9:24 "...that I am Jehovah..." God wants you to know Him! He wants you to understand Him! To know Him, to know how He is, to have a clear idea of Him. Our thoughts are different from those of God. Human beings strive for wisdom, courage and riches, while God delights in mercy, judgment and justice. G. Herbert Livingston said: “Blessed is he who understands the Lord in such a way that he finds his delight in what delights the Lord!”

I. Understanding the Lord:

A. Understanding is comprehending, to know, to have a clear idea of things.

1. Understanding is a mental process that leads to comprehend something. When you COMPREHEND GOD, you will love Him with an infinite love!

2. The moment comes when you comprehend God, it is when you accept Him, obey Him and love Him!

3. Look, people go to a church and there they meet the pastor, the brothers, participate in the services, meet the musicians, etc., but that's not the first thing. The first thing is to understand and know God! So, the reason to go to church is to know the Lord, to find there what God delights in.

4. When we understand and know God our way of thinking CHANGES!

5. (Acts 22:14 "Then he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from His mouth.") The time of knowledge as a human was coming to an end for my dear Paul.

a. Now was the time for him to know God and His will.

b. Before Paul knew His work, now it was to know the will of God in all his being!

c. The Righteous God chose him to see Him ("...see the Righteous...")

d. "...TO HEAR THE VOICE OF HIS MOUTH."

e. Now the Apostle Paul would know very closely: His justice, he would hear: "the voice from the mouth of Jehovah."

B. (John 7:16-17) We see here the importance of Jesus' obedience to the Father.

1. (Vs. 16) Jesus said: "My teaching is not my own. It comes from Him who sent me."

2. Jesus did not seek any credit (glory) for Him, simply: He wanted to glorify His Father!

3. His teaching or doctrine was not His own, but from the One who had sent him, BECAUSE HE UNDERSTANDS AND KNEW THE FATHER! And you?

4. When one teaches, it is not about one, it is of the Father; because if we dedicate ourselves to understand Him and to know Him, it will be easier for us what we speak and what we live.

5. Paul would know His will and would hear the voice of His mouth directly!

6. All that Jesus spoke and taught were the things that His Father commanded him to speak and teach. HE DID NOT ACT WITH THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE FATHER!

7. If someone is sincere and truly wants to know what the truth is, God will reveal it and it will be received by the very voice of His mouth.

8. OBEDIENCE is the heart of spiritual knowledge!

9. Do not talk about yourself, do not think for yourself, but rather you should understand more and know God more as Jesus did. That you may also say: "My teaching is not mine, but of the One who sent me."

a. He sends you, and do you know Him? Or do you not know Him?

b. Jesus understood and knew every plan of God, spoke like Him, knew the voice of His mouth! Think about this and yourself as well?

C. (John 8:31-32) Jesus made a distinction between those who are disciples and those who are "truly His disciples."

1. A disciple is anyone who professes to be an apprentice, but a TRUE DISCIPLE is one that has truly given himself in a real way to the Lord Jesus Christ!

2. Those who are TRUE believers have this characteristic: "they abide in His Word" (Vs. 31).

3. It is not what you think and speak thru your mouth, but what is of God!

4. We must remain, persevere in the teachings of Christ.

5. One does not depart from what He says, one does not turn away from Him, nor is one ever lukewarm or cold.

6. True faith always has the quality of "permanence."

7. We are not saved by remaining in His Word, we remain in His Word because we are saved!

8. (John 8:32) The Jews had not known Him, they were slaves of the Law; if they knew Him, they would be free!

9. Those who TRULY know the Lord Jesus are freed from sin, they walk in light and are led by the Holy Spirit of God!

10. The TRUE DISCIPLES have a promise that they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free.

11. Are you not free? Maybe you are a disciple and not TRULY HIS DISCIPLE!

12. Define in your life today if you are just an apprentice or TRULY HIS DISCIPLE!

13. If you are TRULY A DISCIPLE: You know Him, you understand Him, you comply with His will and you hear His voice; you hear it from the mouth of Jehovah!

D. (John 17:3) Are you seeking eternity?

1. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you...! There is eternity: in knowing God!

2. How is eternal life achieved?

3. KNOWING GOD THE FATHER AND JESUS CHRIST!

4. If you KNOW God and UNDERSTAND God, then: YOU HAVE FOUND ETERNITY! Amen.
